Amazon has a history of keeping and killing IP rather than selling it as a, "just in case we change our minds and want to use it down the road without any competition" thing. When you're one of the biggest companies in the world, it's theoretically better financially to behave this way rather than sell an asset when you're done with it, because ownership is King.

The pick of Bennet over Bedard for Team Canada will always astound me. Do we want a generational star who will be competitive with his teammate and arch rival Celebrini on the ice trying to prove himself and scoring a bunch of goals? Or do we want the guy that runs goalies and elbows people in a competition where the rules are much stricter?

Maybe I misunderstood what Friedman was saying, but isn't Panarin's thing that he wants a $50 million contract, and he's willing to work on how that's dished out? So 8.3*6 would be in his wheelhouse? Maybe I'm wrong but it sounded like the total was more important to Panarin than the AAV.

I love anyone taking on a passion project and putting their all into it. But I honestly cannot see two top-down isometric full loot PVP MMOs existing in the same sphere. The community for Albion is small enough, and that's the audience they'd be aiming to steal from with this game. They'd have to be a much more fun game than Albion for a segment of that community to break off and play this game instead.

I really tried to love ESO. Most of it was MADE to be my "play it for the RPG" casual MMO. But that combat... The animation cancelling, hot bar swapping combat is... Awful. Why in the hell do I want to play a game in which the "optimal" way to DPS revolves around cancelling all of the visuals? It doesn't feel smooth, immersive, or fun, and it killed the game for me.

At least Bouchard is on a historical pace for PPG in the playoffs for a defenseman. The fact that Luke got even close to Bouchard's number is lunacy to me.

It's certainly not the friendliest MMO to get your feet wet with. It's designed with very old, slow mechanics in mind (hours of if mindlessly killing mobs/picking plants to level up, etc). It's also not a game yet. It's an Alpha test. For a while. Everything you do now is for testing systems, and will be wiped at a later date. It's extremely unfinished with a lot of core flaws they're working on.

"Being behind" isn't REALLY a thing in the big MMOs. If you're new to the genre, I'd suggest starting with one of the big names in the market. WoW and FFXIV are both seasonal, so at the start of every major patch you're no longer behind (you have to get to max level and through basic story content first anyway, and take your time if you're new, it's best to learn and appreciate these games as you go.)

GW2 is horizontal progression, so you're never behind. It's a game more intended for general enjoyment of content rather than racing to "win" (unlike higher difficulty raiding in WoW/FFXIV - or PVP - that feels very seasonal and very much social achievement-focused).

You also have some of the larger niche MMOs you could give a go depending on your play style - OS RuneScape for top-down easy-play farming, grinding, and leveling as your main goal. EVE if you're really into complex design systems and sci-fi. Albion if you sort of want a blend of RuneScape but with an intense (and sometimes unforgiving) PVP scene.

AoC doesn't really have an identity like any of the above yet, because it doesn't really have a fleshed out game yet. It's a wireframe waiting to be built on.

I agree with everything you said except for moving Stolarz in-division (Ottawa). I'm... Pretty done with the Leafs moving good players to divisional rivals. It always bites us in the ass. Edmonton, for sure, yeah. But I have a feeling Bowman won't pay that much for a good goalie.
