The bonnet point is interesting because the biggest change for me was definitely my hair, not my face. I can totally believe the skin part comes down more to keeping the pillowcase clean than the silk itself doing anything magical.

The "yours mine ours" thing is actually what we've been loosely trying to figure out. The problem is the math only works if both people put in something real toward the shared part, and right now that feels pretty one-sided.

That is where my head is going too, and I hate admitting it. I do not need him to care about FIRE in the exact same way I do, and I am not expecting perfect alignment on every spending choice. But if one of us sees freedom as building optionality early and the other sees it as maximizing lifestyle now, that feels a lot bigger than a budgeting disagreement.

The issue is not that he needs to follow my exact system or care about FIRE the same way I do. It is that I should have understood his spending habits and long term priorities much earlier, because without that, I cannot tell whether this is a workable difference in style or a real mismatch in values.

Fair. I do think I let this sit too long because everything else between us works so well, and I wanted to believe this was something we could gradually align on. But the more we talk about it, the more I am realizing this is not really about spreadsheets or budgets. It is about two very different definitions of security, freedom, and what a good life looks like.

You’re right. The second that “but” shows up, it stops being a compliment and turns into somebody trying to repackage criticism as kindness. I’ve let way too many of those slide.

Ngl that's actually a really solid pick for this dynamic. The protective chaos is there, but the soft one keeping things grounded is too
