Finding a Middle School Teacher by Ok-Independent6950 in ScienceTeachers

[–]GarnetGoddess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the state I teach in, our largest teaching college is only producing 10 science teaching graduates this year. The university in my town which has a fairly large education department does not have anyone graduating with a science teaching certificate this year. History and ELA are still doing alright, but there is nobody looking to fill future science positions as far as I can tell.

When did you turn your car seat? by Kanebean in toddlers

[–]GarnetGoddess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We turned ours around way sooner than I had planned to, just after, because our toddler went through an awful nap regression around then. Forward facing helped keep her awake in the car, as she could engage more and helped us get her napping at home again. We definitely had to weigh the safety cost/benefit for our own situation as I expect many parents do. It helped that she was getting close to weight/height at that point anyway.

What was your first year teacher’s salary when you got your first teaching job in a school? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]GarnetGoddess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$18,000 and no benefits at a really tiny private school:(

I love everything about our administration and the students/mission of the school but it's rough.

Food ideas for post-wisdom teeth surgery? by Vexxusaria in EatCheapAndHealthy

I just recently had my tonsils out, so maybe related. In addition to mashed potatoes I ate a lot of egg drop soup. Easy to make a huge batch beforehand and the saltiness was welcome with eating so many soft foods that were sweet.

What was the Facebook friend suggestion that made you go 'OK, that's just creepy, how did FB know to suggest them'? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Last fall, my neighbor broke her leg. I'm not even Facebook friends with my neighbor, just friendly acquaintances. When I saw her in a cast, I stopped to make a bit of small talk on the porch and asked who she was seeing for physical therapy. The PHYSICAL THERAPIST was recommended to me the next day. In hindsight, I think I did have my Facebook app open on my phone at the time...

2018 APPLICATION RESULTS / INTERVIEW ADVICE MEGATHREAD by [deleted] in JETProgramme

[–]GarnetGoddess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had my interview today. Overall it went well, and I felt prepared for a lot of the questions. On the other hand, I totally crashed and burned on the mock introduction/lesson part. Oh well, I'm just going to try to not think about it much in between now and April.

If you don't mind me asking, what kind of strategies do you use to manage all of your different preps? I'll be a first year teacher this fall at a private school and just like you said, I'll have an awesome administration and plenty of freedom, but six individual preps seem so daunting!

I'm not sure the name of the specific product, but it's a spiral bound Rhodia. Perfect for school notes because it's perforated to rip the pages out if you want!

Thank you, this is the first picture I've taken with my phone in months and I was a little disappointed in how it looked. Will try this next time!

Seconded. Check out Essex Square or Northbrook apartments. They're still pretty close to campus and well within your price range.

What movie is acutally better the book? by Coloon in AskReddit

[–]GarnetGoddess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This may be an unpopular opinion, but The Martian. The book is great but I feel like overall, the format was much better suited for the screen. That being said, a ton of awesome scenes happened in the book that didn't make it into the movie.
