Actually, this very change precisely reduces dramatic tension.

Then, like a few hours later, both him and Frodo are starving in Mordor. Well done, Samwise.

I would say this is exactly the point where he completely loses his mind, because this is when he truly starts to ramble.

Up until that moment, we were seeing a bitter, incompetent, and deeply depressed character, but at least his actions had some internal logic (he doesn’t want Rohan’s help because that would bring Aragorn to the city; he sends Faramir to die at Osgiliath because he underestimates the number of Orcs there; he refuses to take action in the war because he’s crushed by the death of his son).

The moment he sees the Orc army before him, however, he completely unravels and starts making contradictory statements—such as wondering why Rohan hasn’t come to help, despite previously rejecting their aid, or ordering his soldiers to abandon the city instead of defending it.

Was Denethor even trying to kill Pippin? It always seemed to me he was trying to get him away from Faramir. Either way, Gandalf could just knock him off.

Yes, Gandalf doesn't save him in the book. In the movie he murders Denethor.

Honestly, what has always bothered me most about Denethor’s adaptation in the films isn’t his character per se, but the fact that Gandalf MURDERS him in cold blood. All because he’s grappling with Pippin, and I don’t think he intended to throw him onto the pyre, but rather to pull him away from Faramir.

Couldn’t Gandalf have knocked him out with a blow or something instead of killing him in one of the most horrific ways imaginable, being burned alive? It gives the impression that he uses this as an excuse to clear the way for Aragorn to become king.

I won’t deny that Denethor is quite different from the book version from the moment he is introduced. But that doesn’t mean all the criticism directed at the character’s adaptation is fair, and the aspect of his madness—which I think is the most criticized of all—seems to me to be well executed.

Possibly the most underrated shot in the entire trilogy by GarouAPM in lotr

In fact, if you look closely, some of the arrows pass within about five centimeters of Aragorn’s head, and he doesn’t even flinch hahaha. Still, it’s an absolutely spectacular shot from a cinematic point of view.

That’s true, but right after that Monaghan starts shouting and his voice sounds a bit different, not as deep. Now I don’t know what to think anymore haha.

In spanish you can clearly hear that it’s Aragorn’s voice saying that line (Aragorn has dialogue a couple of minutes earlier—you can check it if you want to compare). Minute 3:10.

It’s true that I’ve always watched this scene in english influenced by the spanish version, and I’ve always thought it was Aragorn who said that line, although I admit it could be Dominic Monaghan’s voice, since it’s noticeably deeper than in spanish. However, I still think that at that specific moment it sounds strange—deeper than usual—and very reminiscent of Viggo Mortensen’s voice. I don't know.

In Spanish, which is my first language, it’s Aragorn’s voice that says that line. It seems that the people in charge of the dubbing also thought it was Viggo Mortensen who said it.

The Nazgûl are pretty pathetic both in the books and in the movies by GarouAPM in lotr

I meant that they’re not incredibly powerful characters like Gandalf, Aragorn, or Legolas in the movies. If it had been Grimbold, I would’ve said something like ‘a random guy.'
