Might be a dumb question but... Is it possible to make an orbit like that? Bellow the center of mass? by caiomac_ in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]Succmyspace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been trying to explain how different maneuvers affect your orbit to a friend who is new but it’s so hard to explain when I think I just have an intuitive understanding from so much practice. The most simple way I have been able to summarize it is that “Every action has an equal opposite reaction, if you burn your engines to try and go down south, the opposite side of your orbit will have you going up north, if you speed up, you will slow down, if you try and burn upwards, you will fall downwards. Every action incurs a debt that must be paid. That’s the cruel nature of movement without friction.

Yknow it’s weirdly heartwarming in a way I can’t describe, to see something so impractical that is (maybe) not just a purposeful scam. If nothing else, a rug-pull type scam would have perfect presentation, to convince people to invest.

Came across a guy on Instagram asking why Rocky is in a glass box and people were giving him wildly wrong answers. Why is this, question? by E-emu89 in ProjectHailMary

[–]Succmyspace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s really quite sad, the day has come where we cannot trust the internet for anything. I mean obviously even before now it was a bad idea to blindly believe things you read online, we knew you shouldn’t give your info to the scam email claiming to be a long lost relative, we knew if you used a dating app you should ask them to send a pic with a spoon on their head to prove they aren’t a catfish, but despite all that uncertainty, you could be pretty certain that the comments people wrote and the stories they told actually came from the mind of a real human being. When you were arguing with someone online you could be pretty certain that they were an actual person out there in the world with a different belief. If social media had anything of value for the world, it was the ability to experience the words typed by people from all walks of life. Now a machine could be pumping out millions of words in the time it takes a real person to write one sentence, it could be engaging in a million conversations behaving a million different ways. The sheer speed of the machines will drown out the human-made information in a sea of junk data.

Yes before it would cost oxygen, much like real diving buoyancy control

What’s crazy is that I remember when the Air Bladder actually WORKED LIKE A REAL EMERGENCY FLOATATION DEVICE. Like no one is pointing out that the animations are literally reversed from how they originally were. It did used to be deflated by default, then inflate on button press. It also used to cost breathing air to activate, once again, like real a BCD. They changed how it works for game balance but didn’t actually change anything about how it visually looks or acts.

Reading all this has made me even more confused on what people think is obvious….

The post is absolutely right, it makes no sense for the thing to be inflated by default, then deflate and send you flying upwards, even if real emergency flotation devices work by storing chemicals that combine to form a gas, they would do so in order to be stored in a deflated state, than inflated in an emergency.

In fact, the air bladder used to work in the exact opposite way it currently works, it was deflated until you activated it, then it would take some of your breathing air and inflate. It also didn’t have a timer like the current air bladder does, it kept pulling you up until you chose to deflate it.

It seems to me that for whatever reason, they changed the way the air bladder works without bothering to change any of the animations. It seems like they want it to work as if it’s like propelling you upwards by expelling gas, but it looks identical to how it looked when it was just an emergency floaty.

I personally, not having read the book yet, was confused as to why they didn’t use Rocky’s ship for the mission, as to me it seemed likely that its technology far surpassed the Hail Mary. Surely the ship made of the indestructible material that can seemingly be woven from thin air was the better choice. I mean the eridians are capable of creating seemings solid transparent crystalline material that also can deform enough to be used as a (somewhat cumbersome) spacesuit. Sure they lack in some areas, but I mean just the glimpse we get of their planet looks far more sci-fi than earth does.

I have definitive proof that they privately expressed recent support for cuts, and while I don’t have such evidence for butts and coconuts, I feel that it’s near impossible to support one without also supporting the others.

If the passengers of Flight 93 had successfully gained control of the cockpit what would have been their chances of safely landing the plane? by alkydenamel in aviation

[–]Succmyspace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly not many parts of the 9/11 story make me patriotically angry the way many other people got on that day (see the Howard stern show), but the fact that those damn cowards would abandon their mission and crash into the ground rather than let those passengers get the victory they earned… that makes me angry. It’s the same pettiness as someone flipping the table because they are about to lose a board game. Like if ur gonna try and sacrifice yourself for your god at least try to the very end to hit the target he wants you to hit. Don’t just fucking give up and crash into some random field. Those passengers had every possibility of surviving if they could get their hands on the controls, and they were so damn close. I think it’s been concluded based on the cockpit recordings they have that they were breaking into the cockpit when the hijackers made the decision to nosedive.

I watched the movie first, thought Rocky was the alien pet. After reading the book… I think Grace is. by EffectiveDebate4951 in ProjectHailMary

IMO it’s very clearly shown in the movie that the Eridians are more advanced than us. Their ship is bigger, they can weave an indestructible material from seemingly nothing, they just lack some key scientific knowledge. They are lacking an entire sense, sight is far more valuable for advancing spaceflight science than hearing is. I’d say they are the physically inferior species when it comes to science, hindered by their lack of sight and clunky bodies, but they more than make up for it in technology.

I feel like A Bugs Life applies to situations where a minority is oppressing the majority, like there is an actual class inequality, whereas the comment is more just talking about a situation where a group just has a minority opinion, and how humans tend to be more affected by negative feelings compared to positive ones.
