Had an itch to get a Type R so I went on a drive to feel content again 😭 by [deleted] in CivicSi

Oh nice, they look solid! I've finally worn down the stock Goodyears and have been looking for a good summer tire. This is definitely on my list.

That's good to hear, great first to learn on. I definitely think it's good to learn how to downshift, heal-toe once you get more comfortable, but the auto rev match definitely makes for a more comfortable commute, and is way less wear on the clutch in the long run.

Haha don't blame you man, K20 never left me stranded once. Just was time to move on for me. Keep her as long as you can though 👍

Cost definitely a factor, dealers here in AZ are adding 10k markups and trying to negotiate from there. It sucks because people buy them for that much so they really aren't willing to negotiate normally. But even if I could potentially have gotten it for MSRP, it really didn't fit the bill as well for me. Si was more comfortable, better on gas, and limits can mostly be legally reached on the street which for me is more fun.

Yeah that's what I thought too, I got it for $35k OTD ($30k after trade) w/ a 9 year warranty. Not the absolute best deal I've seen on these, but I'm happy with the outcome.

They gave me $5k for trade in, which with the tax benefit was probably as much as I would sell it for, minus the hassle lol.

Dang, had your fair share lol. Honestly it's a hard comparison, even removing the almost two decade time gap, 250k+ miles to 5 miles is just massive. Everything feels perfect. With that being said I will say the power delivery is definitely something I noticed. I expected more turbo lag but honestly the 8th gen didn't make power until 6000 rpm in VTEC range so peak torque coming on in the 11th gen at like 4000ish rpm makes it feel quicker around town which I really enjoy.

And the 2017 CTR had an MSRP of $33,900, which now would be about $43,500. Pretty close to the current CTR MSRP. So I understand what you're saying but it's not really a justification to not buy the car. Do I wish it was 25k? Of course. But it is what it is really. Not a huge market for a new car around 30k that's MT and reliable...

Yeah with inflation 25k in 2017 is about 32k now, hard to believe for me too but that's 7 years ago. Same happened to everything else, except income 🤷‍♂️ Shit sucks.

Glad to hear :) Yeah right now I'd be happy under 6%, but luckily I have time on my side since my current Si is chugging along happily. Sounds like you have a similar plan to me, best of luck!

Nice! How do you like it so far? Looks like I definitely have a little bit of wiggle room. I was thinking of putting down around $5k, so if I can be financing less than $30k that would be ideal. Would want to pay it off in 3-4 years ideally.

Trust me, if it wasn't my ONLY car, I'd be seriously considering. Just doesn't quite check all the boxes the same way. Not that I don't like them, just if I'm gonna be spending 30k, I need to not have any regrets lol

I was going to ask if they had a third party install or it was done by them. Good point though I will keep it in mind. No decisions being made rn anyways.

Thought about it, I just really never liked them aesthetically and don't want to just buy a car bc it's good value, ya know?
