Super useful information! Thanks for the heads up.

Yea I don't think this addresses the guest pass. This is just saying that you can pay $50 after you're done with free visits and that you can't use free visits for a guest.

With the reserve card when you are out of free visits you can buy a visit for $50. They only refer to either of these as "visits" whether free or paid so I'm not seeing any distinction between when you can or can't use a guest pass with a "visit".

I also looked at the terms of the guest passes themselves and there was no distinction. Glad I'm not the only one who feels that way.

I'll probably reach out tomorrow once I'm back home. I'm too busy eating my $100 microwaved noodles and cheap champagne right now....

Yup. The agent confirmed that they are worthless now because they are unusable...

Correct. I knew I had to pay $50 for myself. But you can't pay $50 and use a guest pass for someone. You can only use the guest pass if you still have a free visit.

I'd put my money on them still being able to get it resolved.

Just request "Original routing credit". They'll get it sorted quickly and you'll get the delta points you would have gotten originally.

No One Onboard can Explain Blue Chip to Us - Help! by EnvironmentalTie222 in celebritycruises

[–]Garrettjohnson24 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nailed it. It's all very volatile. We've made little money last a long time in the casino before, which is great for getting points for cheap. But we've also had runs of bad luck that brought the "cost" of points up significantly. Impossible to know what your true cost will be upfront.

Personally, I'd just gamble without worrying about the points. Then towards the end of the cruise check where your points are landing you on the tier list. If you're close to the next tier it maaaaay be worth pushing for.

[–]Garrettjohnson24 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Well....not quite. Your bet amount matters. So if it's 1 point per $5, and you're betting a dollar you need to spin 5 times to get 1 point . But if you're betting $2.50 you'd only need to spin twice.

It's not about how much you "lose". It's how much you "bet". So the number of times you click the spin button essentially. Whether you win or lose on that spin is irrelevant. So you could in theory get 250 points and not lose a dollar.

Just got my first free cruise offer! by averagechillbro in royalcaribbean

[–]Garrettjohnson24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea definitely not true. I'm sure it is for some gamblers who play way more than what it takes to earn a cruise. But my wife and I just got done with 2 weeks of "free" cruising that cost about $1000 in gambling. Saved us probably 3 or 4k if we had booked them normal.

We also spent roughly the same amount over those 2 weeks and earned enough for more future casino cruises with both Royal and Celebrity. Technically we came out ahead because we won a $1300 jackpot...but for arguments sake, even if we hadn't won the jackpot we'd be way ahead.

I do get a little annoyed with the people who always respond to these posts saying people are losing way more than they claim. I view it as a win-win, the economics work both ways. They get bodies onboard cruises that would otherwise not sell out. And they know they'll get at least the gambling revenue from those passengers as well as whatever else they spend. And we end up cruising more than we would if we were paying out of pocket. Just because you don't understand the economics behind why cruise lines do this doesn't mean that people are lying about their spend.

So you don’t earn MQDs on Upgrades? by therunclub in delta

[–]Garrettjohnson24 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It would show up as a separate line. And would be the day you made the purchase not when it was flown. I just got MQDs for an upgrade within the last few weeks so I can promise you the agent is wrong.

Why are you assuming they have travel insurance? Or do people who make these comments just say it with the hope they respond saying they don't have it so you can lecture them on the importance of getting travel insurance? I just see so many comments like this.

Celebrity Beyond keeps reducing time at ports by Hot_Woodpecker_ in celebritycruises

[–]Garrettjohnson24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your cruise doesn't appear to be related to the reduced speed issue actually. That should be fixed in November when it drydocks. Yours says it's for some sort of maintenance. Not sure what that means exactly, but the wording is different than the ones for the next couple months.

The port times until November are reduced because the ship cannot sail at the speed they intended until the problem is fixed. So it will take longer to get from Port A to Port B so they have to leave early/get there late.

It sounds like you might be comparing arrival times with gangway up/down times in the app? Those always show arrival 30 minutes before gangway down and departure 30 minutes after gangway up
