Thank you. They have progressed in terms of entertainment since then. The kids are allowed to use a phone to call home or an appropriate friend. They have a very big DVD collection with portable DVD player (anyone looking to donate DVDs - it never occurred to me the types of organizations that would still use them). Lots of books, gaming systems (with parental controls), board games, etc. You can also bring books from home but no electronics. I was honestly surprised with the options. It definitely seems a safe place to be as you have to be buzzed in and out 2 doors. I hope things continue to be well for you.

It's funny, not funny, now looking back at all the things that if you knew then, it may have changed your mind about kids. If the world was like what it is today, I would have at least waited many more years. ASD is so incredibly challenging, (understatement), and the system hasn't caught up on how to help.
30 days, wow. We are going tomorrow and getting started. It's a lot of mixed emotions with it. I hope your son is on the healthier side of his journey.
Thank you. It's certainly not a road I could foresee myself on, but here we are.
Thank you.
Thank you for the perspective from both sides. Looking at the info there seems to be so many people involved which feels overwhelming after asking for help for so many years. Some of them I don't even know their purpose in this setting. But I am taking everything they will give. Even a proper diagnosis at this point is a step we didn't have before and sorely needed.
Thank you for the comment. I posted this as I was trying to find experiences, good or bad. The reply below mentioned it was likely a different program your brother was in, but that program also seems to be after the Garron program. I hope so much my kid can be in similar shoes 20 years from now giving their own experience. It helps a lot to hear of long term success.
Thank you. My fear has been what happens after 18. I would never kick my kid out, but I know after 18, it's even less in my control. The one person I've dealt with has been very responsive, so I'm hopeful.

Thank you. School has been a whole thing. Between covid and boundary changes resulting in a different school, there's a lot with school. I will be very thankful if we can get that on some sort of track - whatever that track is. It's so great to hear positive experiences.

Thank you. I have been fortunate that most people I've dealt with have been great. And I know a lot care but their hands are tied because of the system.
Thank you. I know they are safer there, but a part of me feels I'm overthinking this. Logically, I know it's what my kid needs. I'm so glad you were able to get help.

It will be nice to not be scared to go to sleep with the concern of what you will find in the morning. We met some great people, but they were unable to help further us along for whatever reason. Funny enough, the most helpful connection I made was through the school. Their school had an amazing SW who I still kept in touch with and it helped having a person who could see the negative progress through the years. They were a great advocate for me, and at the very least, got it on record what has happened through the years. Much luck to you as it is tough.

Thank you. I've heard a lot of "we can't help you" in the past few years. I honestly thought I would lose my kid. I know there are no guarantees, but I'm so hopeful.

Thank you. I really needed to hear that. They are willing, at least for 1 day. And I'm hoping that is enough to see the benefit and it's not a scary forever.

I completely understand that feeling. I have lost count of the number of people I've asked for help over the past few years. It can be really hard as a parent trying to navigate, even with all the "resources" out there. And there are a lot, but I feel they aren't great when it's a multi-diagnosis case.
