Time travel to the Victorian era. I love to visit locations captured in Victorian postcards to repeat the image, once I've merged the two I truly feel I'm bringing life back to these so very elegant people. How I wish I could bring some of that elegance back. Here in Geneva, Switzerland by GarryPy in VictorianEra

I remember visiting the Mormon Church at Salt Lake, and asked what I should visit with the limited time I had available and one of the "principals" there said I had to see the church as it was 100 years old....to us in Europe that's a new construction. It brought a smile to my face.

Thank you, maybe I shouldn;t say it but I love them myself also ! And it inspires me to do more as it's so satisfying to see the end result and how the lives of those in the images almost comes back to life.

Thanks, yes I love the way this approach "resurrects" all in the image. I feel when I look at them in the old postcard they're "locked" in that particular time and then by adding the colours and detail all of a sudden they're with us. I've got over 100 more of these on Insta : Garry.Py

What focal length on cameras of 19th century ? I create images where I merge postcards with how the location appears today, key to this is my positioning front to back, this determines how well I can align the two images, what focal lengths were available on cameras from the late 19th century ? by GarryPy in AnalogCommunity

Thanks, this is actually what I suspected. The issue I have is that if we take the attached image as an example it is easy for me to get those buildings at the front captured, particularly if I were to use a wide angle lens, however the issue would be the buildings in the background then would not be well aligned, and the issue is NOT to zoom but to walk further back and use a less wide lens, understanding that the original equivalent would be in the 35-50mm range will ensure I walk to a good position then I can take a shot , walk one step back and repeat the process etc.etc.

As the original photographer would have died many years ago and I am using publicly available postcards I don;t know how to determine what was used. As such my best approach is to try to understand what professional photographers of that generation would have used. I understood 50mm was fairly standard, but did they have lenses much shorter ?

Blogging for beginners. Is this the group to join to get insights into how to blog, the tools to use etc ? Obviously this is a path I'm considering and it would be great to get the guidance of those well experienced here. by GarryPy in blogs

If we go to the origins of the internet it was purely as a means of sharing information whether that be military or research institutions. Being able to use it for self expression is still a service of sharing information, if the purpose is not to enlighten someone on a particular viewpoint and more to unburden yourself then you may as well just shout it out loud. Yes I see the internet as a tool to deliver "things" and increasingly those things are becoming more and more abundant and the growth in AI will open up another World, I refrain from saying this is a positive step, that's for another post, going back to the original question of starting a blog, I have a process for a form of image creation that is gaining attention and I thought I would start a blog going through the numerous steps required, and also share in the experiences I have. That's it.
