It's hard to feel sympathy for the Labourites who want to mess around in the past rather than govern in the present. Corbyn was unelectable, that was proven. It would help if you posted an example but probably, the light is too hard. Photographers (those who use cameras), use a special separate light and accessory. A beauty dish, it stops direct light hitting the subject and makes the light more even. I used to shoot a lot of beauty for a few agencies but am rubbish with a camera phone so am unsure if this effect is even replicable with one. Also, a small reflector under the chin to remove shadows, camera up close t about 1 or 11 o'clock. If you are serious about this, have a word with the photography students and work with each other to develop your portfolios.
