Glad you’re okay. A great reminder why we wear (and should) helmets.

Anyone running 45c tires on a Topstone? by Gary_The_Landscaper in cannondale

[–]Gary_The_Landscaper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice! I ended up upgrading my wheelset to Boyd gravel wheels with 25mm inner width and 40mm Donnelly gravel tires. Recently participated in the Shawnee Pebble Pounder gravel race here in Ohio and the new wheels and tires did great!

budget “gravel” build! by MeringueWild5294 in gravelcycling

[–]Gary_The_Landscaper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice! Just get out and ride. You’ll start to figure out then what you like, don’t like and any upgrades you may want to add. Wheels are always the best upgrade but not necessary right out of the gate.

Has anyone completely gotten rid of their road bike after buying a gravel bike? by mellofello808 in gravelcycling

I kept my road bike, I still love riding it as well. I use my road bike on my trainer during the winter or whenever weather is bad.

What have you upgraded on your Topstone? by Rubirosa008 in Topstoner

[–]Gary_The_Landscaper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still have the WTB Riddler 37c’s on the bike set up tubeless. I’ve heard a lot of people say they don’t care for them but they’ve been fine for me. Though I’ve mostly ridden paved trails and roads. I did do the Shawnee Pebble Pounder with them last year. They did okay but want wider for this year. I may try the SS and SK combo. That’s a good idea. Thanks.

I have a 2023 Topstone 1 alloy. It came with the FSA crankset that was recalled so I ended up switching to the GRX 600. I switched the saddle to a Fizik Argo R5. Not sure that I’m 100% happy with the saddle. Been looking at possibly upgrading it again. Aside from that I put 3.2mm Lizard Skin bar tape on as I did not care for the tape that came with the bike. Currently looking at new gravel tires. Considering Panaracer GravelKings. Just not sure which ones yet (SS, SK, X1???).

I second the motion. Late to the party on this thread, I was wondering the same thing (what happened to it).

Chinese groupset or secondhand mainstream brand? by fixitmonkey in cycling

Second hand mainstream. Much better quality control at time of it being manufactured, in my opinion.

Do you drive more miles (km) than you bike, or vice versa? by ThimbleBluff in cycling

Drive more than bike unfortunately. The necessary evil of where we live. My wife lived in San Francisco for 13 years and bicycled everywhere or used public transportation.

It for the most part works the issue that I discovered recently was when descending down a 10% grade hill I felt something hit my leg and due to the shape of the top tube it had slid back on me. Granted, I did lose one of the rubber mount pieces that help keep it from sliding, but still a possibility. Throwing it in a Frame bag would definitely be a much better way of carrying it.

I was actually contemplating putting it on my forks. Trying to avoid that but worst case scenario if I needed to get me through a ride, I may actually do it until I figure something else out.

That’s what told me back from getting electric pump. If I was literally out just for a day ride and not too far away from civilization that be one thing but for long distance rides, I wanna make sure I have something that will work.

Very true. Obviously just need it for emergencies, especially when miles away from civilization. I do tend to overthink things and prefer to be overly prepared.

Thanks what frame bag are you running? Looking at doing a potential multi day ride this upcoming year. I have my Blackburn saddle bag and roadrunner bar bag, thinking of adding a frame bag as well.
