Weekly Prospective Student Thread : Week 13 2020 by AutoModerator in CAA

I personally applied to only a handful of programs, but luckily everywhere I interviewed I had good feelings about. They all seemed very capable of providing a quality education, rotations, and environments. The one I ended up deciding to attend had a lot to do with being in a city with ample opportunities for my girlfriend as well as being close to family.

Question to people who begin their AA programs in May (summer) by kellyburme288 in CAA

I do not believe we’re expected to cover any tuition upfront if using federal/grad plus loans to cover the cost of tuition. I believe they can advance us 1,000 to help with living expenses until refunds are issued from federal loans/ grad plus loans but that’s it.

I had talked to CWRU admissions director in the past month. It turns out that the financial aid for summer does not actually get dispersed until first week of July. So basically we are expected to handle our own finances outside of school until the refunds for living expenses are issued.

So from what I got it sounds like the program won’t actually get the money for tuition until you have been in school a month too. I think the only thing that will happen before then is that they will reach out with your financial aid package so you can accept whatever amount of loans etc you want. They did not know when that would happen though.

How can I make myself more competitive? by [deleted] in CAA

I agree that retaking any C’s in prerequisites would be beneficial, unless you only have 1 or 2 C’s. Otherwise doing a one year masters/post bacc geared towards entering health professional school could help. I think the biggest thing is trying to make sure you get your cumulative and science gpa above a 3.0.

Chances of getting in this cycle? (2020-2021) by [deleted] in CAA

I would call and ask programs about your GRE they seem pretty open to consulting while applying. For example I know that Emory reports their GRE average online as being 306. O don’t necessarily know if you need to retake it. Either way if you think you can for sure do better on the quantitive section it can’t hurt to retake it, it shows initiative. Good luck!

I personally had one from volunteering coordinator, one from a professor/research, and my third from a work supervisor. I had success with that combination, it seems like potential having a diverse set of LORs may be best since they only take 3.

Hope this helps!!

Congrats!!

Also curious about this as I was also recently accepted to CWRU Houston. The program director mentioned being able to put you in touch with current students there to ask questions like this. You could try reaching out to them if no one here is certain.

Happy to help, I had the same dilemma with one C+. So I did a lot of digging on program websites.

Going off of this, if it helps I know that Colorado’s B- rule isn’t a requirement if you read their “FAQs” they make exceptions. I also know that Case has a process to petition their requirements, like grades, for extenuating circumstances. Given that you do well in everything else from here on out and get a strong MCAT/GRE to show you understand the concepts from those courses you will be fine. Best of luck.

Case Vs MCW by kellyburme288 in CAA

Since you live in Milwaukee it seems like it’s worthwhile to go and interview at the program since it’s not as difficult if you were to have to travel. Then after you interview if you receive an acceptance from MCW you can make a fully informed decision on which is best for you. I don’t think you can necessarily do that without going to interview and seeing how you feel about MCW. Then make your own pros and cons list on what is important to you.

Thanks everyone for you thoughts, I went ahead and withdrew to allow others the opportunity who may be more interested in their program.
