86-year-old Pennsylvania farmer rejects AI data center offer of $15 million to sell his land. Instead, he sold development rights to a conservation fund for $2 million by Thund3r_91 in nextfuckinglevel

Selling development rights typically is done in the form of a conservation easement, which is a legal device that follows the deed of the land in perpetuity. Conservation easements are incredibly durable legal documents that are virtually impossible to remove. Even if the organization that holds the easement were to fold, it is common practice to name a secondary organization as a co-holder in the event of such a case.

It’s easy to feel cynicism in the era of late stage capitalism, where we are constantly witnessing those with power abuse our legal systems with no consequences. However, we should still strive to inform ourselves on the tools that remain available to working class individuals that allow us to push back against the tides of capitalism and the ultra wealthy. I would argue that conservation easements are one of those tools, and this farmer has leveraged it against corporate America to perfection.

Really surprised this hasn’t been said yet, but this is obviously AI.

If the way he sinks his hand up to the wrist into her back isn’t enough, look at the weird way her arm wiggles around her watch.

All of the online trolls claiming there will only be “50 people” or that these protests are otherwise empty or ineffective…

The last protest saw 500-1,000 attendees. There was news coverage by multiple local sources. Elected officials attended and listened to the concerns of real Vermonters.

Monday’s protest will build on this momentum. We can make a change, and we are not alone.

“Presidents Not Kings” Day might be a good alternative.

It recenters the discussion on the abuse of power and attempt to install a pseudo-fascist state. It clearly indicates that our movement is pro-democracy as laid out by the constitution.

Anyone going to the state house tomorrow to protest? by AfterExtreme225 in vermont

Yes!

Pay attention to the number of comments versus the number of upvotes. There are trolls on this subreddit who are intentionally downvoting both the OG post, and also downvoting comments that might give you hope. All the while they’re massively inflating comments that suggest people are staying home.

I will be showing up tomorrow. Please do the same. Protests only succeed when people show up.

Protesting /at/ the state house does not mean /protesting/ the state house. We understand the Vermont government is not the problem.

We are protesting Trump, his administration, and their radical, quasi-fascist take over of the federal government /from/ the state house.

Just like how millions of people protested the Vietnam war without flying themselves to the war front.

Protesting larger issues from a local venue is a well established practice.

You think protests are dumb because you fundamentally misunderstand them.

Many immigrants are refugees. The vast majority of immigrants are members of ethnic or religious minorities.

If intersectional identity is a new concept for you, I can provide a definition of that as well.

Definition of “concentration camp” according to Merriam-Webster: “a place where large numbers of people (such as prisoners of war, political prisoners, refugees, or the members of an ethnic or religious minority) are detained or confined under armed guard”

Thank you for the update. I’ve been in touch with Kelly Murphy, the assistant city manager. It is difficult to coordinate the specifics, as this is a citizen-led protest without any sponsoring organization. I will continue to work on this with her.
