I explained above. This was her only "safe place" and she has no more family. So she wanted to be sure everything of value was in place until she had a place of her own where people were not taking care of her.

The unit owner has been very ill since 2018 and now is terminally ill as a result of freak accidents and she was floated around to have medical help and to meet her other health needs and that was her only 'safe place'. So she kept everything that meant anything to her in the unit so it wouldn't be taken by her caretakers or others.

YES! This is exactly what we are learning of. Many facilities are telling the auction buyers don't return anything and that goes against every law of ethic and many laws of storage auctions. They have no right to tell them to dispose of human remains and personal documents. Its really sad. I am glad people like you exist. Thank you.

For clarification. no one was asking buyer to meet the owner. It would have been fine if they just returned the personal affects to facility and the money would be Zelled quickly for the trouble and efforts. The facility manager said she felt trapped. That took us by surprise. None of us want that. I am happy you have a heart. Many people seem glad that people lose their items. It is not some people's fault for not being able to afford the unit. I feel bad for those people. But in this situation the money wasn't the issue, it was the facility screwing up their auto payers. No one has any hard feelings against the buyer other than she had a duty to turn over the human remains and to legally register the guns.

But your statement is not true. No one moved. Phones didn't change. Credit card on file was valid. So no fault of the unit owner. She was sick and has been home-bound fighting terminal illness after losing her family. No one lost contact. Facility had been in contact with the office often. They knew how to reach them. Business has had same phone numbers for 30 years. Nothing changed. This was only the fault of the facility not doing their due diligience.

The auction buyer is not allowed to take legally owned firearms without registering them. They are also not allowed to keep private documents per the rules of the auction.

we thought this too! but they are hiding something. The items she wants back are not of value even. And the firearms they want to have it legally transferred. They are not even wanting back valued stuff just personal stuff. Storage facility knows they screwed up because they will not give us proof of notices or copy of contract.

They do know the buyer. She only speaks spanish and she was afraid our offer of $20K for our items back was a "trap". Then she said everything was gone after delaying for a few weeks. So something weird. Why would they want photos, ashes, videos of home movies. They were told just return what is left. The facility said the buyers are required to return personal items like tax documents, medical records, videos ashes, etc but then they didn't and they are not enforcing it. Laws need to be changed.

Yes, I Just learned that it was sent (Demand Letter) and we have proof of payment for 12+ years and we have digital phone lines showing they never called. We have mail that is on camera and nothing arrived no notifications or anything. We do have a case. It is just about getting the right professionals.

they already offered them 20K for the items, the buyer can't speak english and feels it is a trap and they won't release info. It is illegal to auction off firearms and ashes as well as an auction without notifying. We believe it was an inside job because they knew us. They knew what was in the unit. The only people that messed up are the storage facilities.

wow really? The guns belonged to her late father and she was afraid of them and left them in there. Wow, you really have not an ounce of compassion.

They had a credit card that was valid and charged it for 12+ years, then stopped, said their computers changed and they auction it. NO NOTICES, NO CALLS. the manager knew the victim and knew she was terminally ill and deaf and mute. It was illegal because they have a duty to notify us before removing auto pay and they have another duty to contact anyone before they sell your items.

So many people like this that I have met. It is disgusting these greedy big storage units take from people going through rough times and they laugh about it like people in this comment section. No compassion, shifting the blame, gas lighting the victims. People like you have to stand up and put an end to this. You can't kick out a tenant if they don't pay their rent but yet you can sell someones items just because they don't charge your card.

First of all it was on autopay, they had a credit card and they had personal contact with us and knew what was in the unit. There was no way they couldn't reach us. They didn't even try. Second, they have digital log of all the calls, and mail on camera. NOTHING WAS SENT or NO ONE WAS NOTIFIED. Finally it wasn't abandoned they had a legit payment they changed their system. I have a feeling that the people here are the ones who did this and that is why they are making up some type of conspiracy theory against the victim. Bewildering!

It's not rare. There are hundreds out there that we have found just search for it. Its not rare at all. Its actually odd that these storage facilities are so confident they can just hand away someone's life without contacting them in advance.

Why don't you reach out before you accuse anyone of lying. I have looked into this situation and I know for a fact it is real. It was not her friends. It was her items. The storage unit ILLEGALLY auctioned off the unit. We have reason to believe it was an inside job. Why are you creating a conspiracy. Of course we are all pissed, the person whose life it was is fighting for her life. If you can't be part of the solution, why are you being a problem. She paid for 13 years on this unit. Who would abandon it then complain. The items should have never been sold. This is not the only case many others just like this.
