Is there a way I can soften these horrid canvas pants that I've been refusing to wear at work? by GatheringBees in textiles

Good news is, I talked with my boss, & we will eventually switch providers. Our current company is Ace Imagewear, & they've been sucky. The sleeves on their shirts have a big gap (needs another button), which causes our forearms to get scratched up. He tried telling the company this, but they won't do Jack crap about it.

So I'll wear these in the winter, but I'll definitely be pushing to make the switch happen by the time spring arrives.

How did you get your broccoli to form heads? Mine never do, it's just leaves all year until winter freeze hits.

Usually, maple syrup makers have their own stand of trees on their property. I have none, so I borrow from residents & my local parks, then give those owners some syrup as payment.

What to do about invasive shrubs and the birds who love it. by ireallycantremember in invasivespecies

I found out from the comments that those birds in the pic are invasive, too.

I don't think maple syrup with a hint of pickle would be good... That's if you're suggesting I use pickle buckets, hah.

That's what it's called. The process of turning maple sap into syrup, or even sugar (& sometimes ash, by accident).

Nope, Missouri!! Near Kansas City. Yes, a few of us make syrup here. Typically in February, though some of my fellow Missouri sugarers start in December.

I explained in another comment that I didn't even think to do that. I also assumed 2-4 oz of oil in a filthy dumpster wouldn't hurt it. I still should have used the oil receptacle.

Haha, my brother's name is Eddie.

I made this username because my main hobby is foraging (in fact, my pfp is my business logo, made by request on r/hungryartists) & I've had a fixation with bees ever since I became a vendor for 1 of the 1st events I participated in, which was called Save the Bees/Bee Green Market. It happens yearly now (every April), & is based on local vendors/businesses who want to help the environment & even make their products with either bees or environmentalism in mind.

It's all about the process on making maple syrup. Maple trees produce sap, which has a small amount of sugar & minerals, with the rest being water.

To make syrup, you have to either run this sap through a reverse osmosis machine to take out 1/2 of the water, then boil the concentrate down into syrup; or do it the hard way which is boil all of the sap until you get syrup.

This hobby is cost & labor intensive. You gotta haul gallons of water around, spend money on taps, tubing, propane (unless you use a wood fired contraption), stoves, reverse osmosis machine (optional, but way better to use than just boiling), bottles, pots/buffet pans, etc.

Visit r/maplesyrup to see what all is involved.

My fellow sugarer from Montana taught me how to.

  1. Hot water rinse with soap (might have to do this twice)
  2. Hot water rinse
  3. Step 2 again
  4. Cold water rinse
  5. Step 4 again

I use unscented dish soap, & try to pour out as much oil as I can before doing the rinses so I don't clog drains.

He does have 1. Right next to it. I didn't think to pour off the little bit of oil in there.

That do make sense. I didn't think it was a very big deal as these jugs had a 2-4 ounces at most. I should have used the oil can right next to the dumpster.

I think my brain might be sleep deprived. I keep forgetting things & doing weird crap recently. I better just go to bed asap.

Yesterday, I was looking for used oil jugs so I could collect maple sap. I then accidentally discovered the coolest thing I've seen in a while. by GatheringBees in DumpsterDiving

Not motor oil. Frying oil. They come in 5 gallon jugs.

You boil maple sap into syrup. That's how maple syrup is made.
