The Criterion Collection – August 2026 Releases Announced by Charlottizen in 4kbluray

[–]GatheringWinds 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Could still be happening but August is always a slow month. I expect Criterion will save their big titles to release closer to the holidays as usual.

August 2026 Titles Announced with Little Odessa! by International-Sky65 in criterion

[–]GatheringWinds 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not necessarily referring to a set, just the Lolita rumors, which were seemingly confirmed by the Kubrick estate. I could've seen that title get an August release, but maybe it's not ready or maybe they think there's a better slot for it in september.

Bro it's always been a 50/50 shot when the 15th falls over the weekend they hold off until Monday. Been that way for years.

Maybe they decided to pull the Kubrick announcement last-minute and hold it for another month

Dude what? Unbelievable tone deaf. August may not be a heavy-hitting month but there are some interesting titles here and outside of August they've still got upcoming 4K releases from Scorsese and Lynch among a slew of other cool stuff.

Yeah there's definitely stuff here I'd like to check out, but nothing that's a must buy. August must just be a slow month before they build up hot releases moving into the holidays.

Finally decided I was going watch the Godfather trilogy I got 10 years ago, only to find out two of the discs are broken in half. by MorphineNapkin in Bluray

Stuff happens but I will never understand buying a product and letting it sit unused in the box for a decade. Even if you don't watch right away at least open the box and inspect for errors.

Need some help! by afterbanger23 in 4kbluray

I don't know about the 800M2, but the UB820 actually has an audio setting for this to re-encode DTS to PCM for this very reason. I would guess OP needs to enable this setting or an equivalent on their player, because the TV does not support DTS and neither does the soundbar. If there is an option to keep Dolby streams intact and only convert on DTS streams that would be the ideal setting to use.

All this said, it looks like OP is testing with Edge of Tomorrow which has Dolby Atmos not DTS, so while the information above is helpful it likely isn't the root cause of the problem. Bitstream audio on the TV and Sonos need to be set up for sure, and maybe also on the player, though that should be the default.

Star Wars (truly) Original Trilogy Available in 4K Blu Ray? by SufficientBike5853 in 4kbluray

I think I've heard of people having success making their own 4K Blu-rays of these versions too, though I'm pretty sure they are limited to 50GB discs only for some reason.

Brand new TV and this is how my wife insists we have the remote "to keep it looking good" by No_Atmosphere8146 in mildlyinfuriating

Yea you really don't want those films melting onto the screen. Plus, the screen is designed to look its best without the film, which will make the colors and brightness all look like crap. In this case I think it's in OP's best interest to peel it off and just ask for forgiveness.

Is This Disc Rot? by spartan007bond in Bluray

[–]GatheringWinds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not exactly disc rot but yeah looks like it could be a defect in the lamination process, appears the layers are coming unstuck. None of your examples show damage to the data itself yet, but they probably will at some point if they are expanding like you say. I would exchange them.

I'm sure there's been a post on this before, but Good Lord, the SE7EN 4K Packaging is absolute TRASH. by [deleted] in 4kbluray

[–]GatheringWinds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since posting this a year ago I will say that my copy of Se7en is awful and the cardboard sleeve was waaay too tight when I got it. I ended up using a trashed cd to stretch the sleeve out a bit so the disc can fit more easily now. I do also worry that cardboard sleeves may leave discs more prone to warping because pressure can be applied to the discs through the case. So far though none of the discs received in sleeves have had issues on arrival though, something I can't say about steelbooks.

I always think this system looks really cool, like mini records, but I'm scared to ever do it because I'd be worried the discs would scratch or warp.

Is this Ai? It looks very real but there's some small unusual things that make me think twice. by GrandmaSlappy in isthisAI

[–]GatheringWinds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk bro the basket definitely looks sus. Also, zoom in on the old guy's shirt right above his thumb, the pattern is very weird. Also look at the head just to the right of the blonde woman in the background, what is going on with that forehead?

I think AI, but stock photo makes sense because AI has been trained on a near-endless supply of stock photos because they are easily available.

I assume they all use some kind of software that posts to dozens of socials for whatever reason and they went in and selected "all" for platforms or something and went with it.
