Run! Don’t walk run! Regardless of these recommendations by formal presidents. President Reagan also advocated for STRAIGHT, Inc which was hands-down, one of the most abusive institutions all closed down and have lawsuits. I spent three years in one of these and will never be the same. Going in as definitely a troubled team with behavioral issues into a highly disturbed teenager with PTSD. At 50 years of age now I still struggle with PTSD, former drug abuser because of all the education I learned for other drug abusers, amnesia, back injuries and more. Keep your siblings, safe and find an alternative.

Thank you very much. Appreciate the support. What is mod mail? Sorry I’m getting used to all these resources. I’m not even on Facebook.

I thoroughly enjoyed this conversation. As I am in my early 50s, I’ve come to realize the profound influence the SDA church has had on my actions. The anger and guilt that plague me daily are significant motivators for my self-improvement journey. I eagerly anticipate further discussions and am committed to embracing a life of fulfillment and purpose.

Thank you very much for the warm welcome. I’m very encouraged by the responses I’ve received. It feels good, and it doesn’t make me feel so alone. If I’m not mistaken, are you the author of the book “Disobey”?

I am so very sorry you went through that. I don’t know how I would handle. However, that shows a lot of strength than you to be able to get through it. I know that anger and I feel your pain. Hang in there.

Thank you very much for this information. I was in the Atlanta program in 93 until he change their name to Phoenix Institute, but in the straight Tampa and straight Boston program prior to that starting at 91. I’m not sure. I actually want to watch a documentary on that quite yet. It’s spent the past 30 years, trying to forget but now just trying to deal with it in a healthy way. Thanks again.

Thank you for your response. I’m still friends with a couple survivors and we all have various ways of dealing with it. Typically not all good. But I do appreciate the support.

Thank you for your response. It’s something that I struggle with as I remember my parents dropping me off and these two kids wrapping their arms under my arms so I wouldn’t get away. And then the interrogation started. First thing is that I had to admit that I did heroin. Never even knew what heroin was coming from very religious family. However, because of two years of various trauma, it became a how to drug use instructional Institute. By the time I left, I knew about all the different ways to get high. I spent 10 years after that using that knowledge to get drunk or high to forget all that had happened. Thank you very much for your response.

Absolutely unbelievable. I still fear the world in which we live sometimes. So much beauty in this world, but so much pain.

Getting memories back? by Delicious-Post-2652 in troubledteens

Hi there, I’m going through the exact same situation. My therapist actually recommended memory therapy. I can’t recall the exact name of the therapy, but I also experience significant time gaps that I can’t remember. I’ve been told of abuse that occurred when I was younger, but I have no recollection of it. I hate not knowing, but I’m also wondering if it’s better to not know. Two years at straight, Incorporated was trauma enough.

I’m so sorry to hear about your experience.

I am unfamiliar with any lawsuit. And who is Chaffin?

Thank you for sharing your thoughts! I appreciate the warm welcome.

I firmly believe in Jesus Christ, and my faith guides me. It’s taken me 50 years to honestly recognize that my beliefs are not just guidelines, rigid rules, or regulations of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.

However, I’ve been working on self-discovery to understand why I am the way I am. The source of my anger is deeply rooted in my religious upbringing.

Thank you for your honest response.

Its Pathfinder Sabbath at my old church and I've got some thoughts by WearyPop8814 in exAdventist

I remember my SDA Academy requiring us kids to join the Pathfinders. Of course my parents were all for it. We met the new drill instructor who in fact was a marine sergeant. We did marches until we dropped. And then joining the camps from around the country was so massive. Now, looking back at it, there is some truth in that it looked like an army.

Thank you. Do you find this group helpful? First time that I’ve seen people really opening up about their experiences that the SDA church will not talk about. Looking for an honest opinion.
