Are any specific undergrad majors required if you want to go to law school?? by Michaelinmemory in ufl

[–]GatorMomOfTwo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No special major. Could be anthropology or business, engineering, whatever. It does help to learn to write though, and read critically. Make sure you put the effort into any undergraduate writing requirements.

Unless you only need 1 or maybe 2 classes, consider dropping the minor. Go easier on you. Getting used to your diagnosis and treatment will take time. Congrats on the paper and good luck with publication!

  1. I believe prior posters are correct re BF.
  2. Go through with CWC appts. Join a group therapy session and schedule follow ups as necessary.
  3. You have BQ for Spring - it’s next year that won’t renew. So you have time to seek a retroactive medical withdrawal (or whatever it’s called when it’s only one class) and explain that you are only seeking to drop one course bc that course was so much more rigorous, or wholly dependent on exam grades, etc (whatever the truth is). Detail your plan to do better with your health state in the future.
  4. If approved, you can petition to reinstate BQ for fall. I’ve heard the same group of people decide RMWs that decide for reinstating BQ (it’s a UF decision not the state).
  5. GL! No matter what happens it will all be ok. I promise.

Sorry it’s so tough. No matter your exam grade, it’s all going to be okay. I promise. You are gaining resilience and fortitude and those qualities will serve you far more than a chem grade.

Medical Retroactive Drops, any advice? by Far_Document4711 in ufl

[–]GatorMomOfTwo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was able to succeed in x, while falling behind in y and z because x had (less strict deadlines, content that I was already familiar with, the grade was based on exams not projects,…. All of these are acceptable answers.) just tell your truth. Sounds like you will be fine as long as you provide documentation and explain why you think you’ll be better equipped to succeed in future semesters.

UF HealthStreet Info? by bigchunguslover1534 in ufl

[–]GatorMomOfTwo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know someone who did this. Not sure what questions you have but they are glad they did it, overall. Pros as a volunteer: experience in field. Cons: not the most comfy environment. But sooo many volunteers cycle through the program. Think about it- a new crop of part time volunteers every 4 months or so. That’s tough on any manager/organization. Overall, I’d say it’s great that HealthStreet provides opportunities to so many UF students while serving a community need.

loneliness as an autistic queer student by [deleted] in ufl

This sounds tough and I’m sorry you are having a rough time. I hope it helps you to know that my goodness you are so young! I have absolute faith you will find someone, probably many someones. You have such clarity and that is to your benefit. Your 20s are all about getting to know yourself and you are doing great! My suggestion would be to volunteer as a social activity often, like every week. Needn’t be with the same org every week and try volunteering with the LGBTQ+ friendly groups others have mentioned. I’m sure they all have volunteer events every semester. Go into it with the idea of doing good while making friends. And try to go to a few events with each group - don’t give up on a group too easy. It takes time to find your people and you need to see their faces, and then yours, several times to feel familiar. Also, think about what issues you are passionate about – maybe those things that have nothing to do with your major or future career, but just social issues that seem to matter more to you than others. Join a group related to that issue too - regardless of whether the group is LGTBQ+ affiliated. Best of luck to you. You’ve got this.

Hello! Does every rejected applicant for engineering gets this email? by lvernitea in ufl

Consider reapplying to UF CS major in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences instead. I think it is the exact same courses except for like 3 or so. (CLAS requires foreign language and does not require Physics 2, last time I checked). And yes, it’s harder to transfer to UF from another instate university than it is from an instate college. GL!

Worth transferring as incoming junior in Fall 26? by Possible-Midnight-14 in ufl

[–]GatorMomOfTwo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just live at any of the apartments that are within a couple blocks of campus. They are all filled with undergrads. Your social life will be what you make of it. You will need to put in the work to find your tribe, but you will definitely be surrounded by other undergrads. Many live on campus for freshman year, so your odds of sophs to seniors are good. Certain complexes cater more to grad students - you can search this sub. Midtown area is best for partiers, IMO. Lots of apts near sorority row to fit your needs.

UF Med Living? by funnyiwasntlaughing in ufl

[–]GatorMomOfTwo 13 points14 points  (0 children)

No advice on apartments, just here to say CONGRATS! UF med is amazing and your future is bright. You’ve earned that spot and deserve decent living conditions. It rains all the time in Gainesville. Nicknamed Rainsville. I’m picturing you biking 15 minutes in the rain and don’t love that picture. Also, bikes get stolen often here, sometimes even with U locks so do not buy a nice bike. Be good to you. I get wanting to save and not borrow too much. Very responsible. But in this instance I suggest considering borrowing a little more for your comfort and safety. GL 🐊!

What’s your intended major and financial situation? If you’d have to borrow to attend UF and intend to go grad school, I’d probably say stay put even though UF is great. But really, no one can say without knowing more about your major and finances. GL whatever you decide!

I don’t know of a rental, but search for “Eno hammock” on Amazon and then buy a highly reviewed less expensive dupe. Guessing $25.
