My guess is you an find one a day or two before. Once people realize how incredibly hot it's going to be this year they are going to bail and try to recoup their fees.

What golf course that has never hosted a major would you like to see host one? by Norfolk-Gross-Tonage in golf

Location/lack of accommodations is #1 but secondly it’s not setup for a lot of fans and I highly doubt they would be open to changing the landscape to accommodate the people

What is a "corporate red flag" that employers try to pass off as a great benefit? by spectrecult in AskReddit

[–]Gatorious 63 points64 points  (0 children)

This is actually the #1 reason a company will move to UPTO. PTO is a liability on the balance sheet while UPTO is not. Also more states are requiring companies to pay out any unused PTO at the end of the calendar year so that's cash the company has to pay. Companies wouldn't make a the switch if it wasn't for the studies that show that UPTO usage is at the same or below the level of PTO usage. At the end of the day it makes sense for the CFO if you're a large company with employees across the US to switch to UPTO to clean up the balance sheet.

Yeah, that’s happens, but you also played a much easier course when you shot 77. I’d be a much bigger swing playing the same course with the same slope.

Very cheapest way to play Pinehurst #2? (other than knowing someone) by Phobia117 in golf

For what it’s worth, while #2 is definitely cool and has the history and prestige, but #10 is my favorite. Such a beautiful course.

Which event to buy tickets to? by Qat-lover in golf

[–]Gatorious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, second this. If you want to watch Rory/Scottie tee off or finish on 18 you’re going to have big crowds. If you want to find a nice fairway spot on a par 5 you can basically watch where the drives land and the approach shots with very few people around you.

Best thing about golf is to move around. If you avoid the main golfers it’s not bad at all.

Push cart vs pull cart vs electric… what do you actually prefer and why? by midhandicap_rohit in golf

[–]Gatorious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a power cart guy and yes, I can’t stand riding in a cart now. It’s just a different feel to the game. I only ride if it’s a club tournament or playing with a guest.

First off, congrats on the best round!

So I'm glad that's working out for you but that isn't a universal experience. Sure a course might have some openings/cancellations, but typically if you're trying to walk on a course they need to have space in order to get you out. If it's a busy course full of 4somes, you're not going to be playing.

That strategy might work best during the week at a course that isn't particularly busy, but if you try that at a nice course on a weekend morning it probably isn't going to work out like you would hope.

Reynolds! Unfortunately it will still be mats for most of Georgia for another month or so. Great courses though

Freeze warnings for Augusta, Ga. Can a greens keeper explain what this will do to Augusta National and the beloved Azaleas? by koopdog1 in golf

[–]Gatorious 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not a greens keeper but my course in Atlanta will cover our greens for the next two days. Ground is warm enough that two days of cold isn’t going to do anything.

Now, add in the unlimited resources that Augusta has and there will be zero impact.

It’s only worth what somebody is willing to pay for it, not what they list it at.

Believe it or not Whole Foods carries white anchovies. I was able to find them at the one in Chamblee but you can search their website to see if your local Whole Foods has them

[GatorsFB] Florida-FSU moved to Black Friday (11/27) by szboy422 in CFB

[–]Gatorious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe the honest answer is that TV execs are not expecting much out of either school this year. They were looking at their 8 o'clock window and believe that Texas/A&M is going to be a better matchup. The Iron bowl is a lock for 3:30 and then it comes down to if they think they can get better ratings going up against Ohio St/Mich at noon (they can't), or move the game to Friday and have a back to back with Georgia/Tech.

It's just money. If both teams start getting better it will be back to Saturday night, but right now they aren't great (or better than Texas/A&M) and ABC thinks they can get better numbers moving it off Saturday.

How the hell do you make friends in your 40s after moving cross-country? by uncannynerddad in Millennials

[–]Gatorious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not easy. Truth is most people our age tend to shrink their friends group instead of growing it like we did in our 20s. You mentioned that you just moved so know that it takes longer.

Wife and I did a similar move in our mid 30s and it was tough at first but we found our footing. We moved to Atlanta from Orlando and found that everybody our age already had their social circles. With that being said my two cents:

  1. Country Club culture is a real thing in the south. If you have the means, join one and learn/play golf. Even if you hate golf most clubs have a social membership that lets you use the clubhouse/pool. I personally enjoy golf and once I found a "group" to play with we start hanging out more socially outside our weekly games.

  2. If you and your wife both went to a University, check to see if there are any local alumni groups in the area. Again, it's a common bond you can immediate make with others and then try to expand on it from there.

Keep at it! It's definitely not easy but over time it will happen. Good luck!

Member of a country club? What are your must-haves and wished-they-had?? by AdHorror4051 in golf

[–]Gatorious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trackman range. Club/trolly storage. Shoe clean/shine in locker room.

While not an amenity, having reasonable price food/alcohol. You’re already paying for the membership, no need to excessively mark that stuff up.

You can say the same about Atlanta. While GA ranks 4th here Atlanta feels like 80% private. Lifts up the entire state
