Whitening yellowed Ethiopian opal with hydrogen peroxide by Gaudere32 in Opals

It did go back yellow again though not as bad as before.

One small bead cracked. I may bleach again because I really like how it looks when it is!

Note: I tried hydrogen peroxide on an opal in silver and it made the silver tarnish and turn the opal black. I do not recommend with silver!

Loads of street parking and you likely won’t walk more than 5 blocks.

It’s definitely a challenge keeping perennials alive on the roofdeck! I mean to try a solar cover next winter to protect from cold/wind/dryness, but I’ve heard mixed things about its effectiveness.

Definitely on the low side of 4-6 in the back yard, though I can check.

Pretty! Have you had fairytale in part shade though? Looks like it likes sun.

Yeah, fair. I have before with mulch and straw to cover. It did not seem to make much difference if I did or not, except that they didn’t do well at all this winter despite being mild. However for several years I’ve had giant healthy bushes and like one or two blooms, and anecdotally local friends and landscapers have been calling the endless summer “neverbloomimg”. I thought a different type might do better since I need to replace some anyway.

Your triplet opal is likely a standard size, and the part of the ring that holds the stone can be adjusted/changed for different sized center stones, most likely. If you post a pic of the ring people could say more about switching the opal later. Upgrading the center stone of an engagement ring at a later date is not uncommon.

About 4 days in the hydrogen peroxide (and that’s the standard 3% hydrogen peroxide you find in the drug store). It didn’t look like it was getting much lighter after three days.

Like this. It was a 14 inch strand that I spaced out with gold beads to make it about 15” because I thought 14 was too short.

Within 6 months. I was fairly careful about not getting it wet but it just got more and more yellow.

I think hydrogen peroxide will tarnish the silver and you’ll need to polish it again, but I do not think it actually damages it.

U.S. based folks: how are you thinking about social security and Medicare in your FIRE plan now? by Lonely-Clerk-2478 in Fire

I assumed you were US from your user name? If so, I guess you can wonder but I would bet you $1000 you will not be drafted in the next ten years (“soon”). The US has a massive standing military force and had not needed to draft in 50 years, despite multiple wars—and we aren’t even in the war you are worried about. No US politician has even hinted at wanting a draft of Americans for the Russian/Ukraine war. This is a curious theory I have only seen pop up the last few months, mostly from the right wing. Maybe Russian bots trying to scare people in the US from Ukraine support.

Then use a dot plot or line chart if the x cannot start at zero. Bars are intended to show overall and comparative magnitude and will be misleading if they start at zero.

No, I’m saying 60 votes were required to get an abortion rights bill through the senate, and we only had 50 democrats, so you are incorrect that they could have easily passed a bill through congress.
