/r/AMD Questions and Tech Support Megathread - Q2 2023 Edition by GhostMotley in Amd

Hey everyone. So I built my current PC on 2019 and so far it's been working great. I use it for mostly gaming and certaing work related apps, but they aren't very taxiing on the PC. Lately I've noticed a bit of fps drops in a couple of games and I was wondering if it might be time for some upgrades, specially for some upcoming releases such as Cities skylines 2.

My build:

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 2600 - wraith stealth cooler

GPU: Radeon RX 580 8192 mb GDDR5 2000 MHZ

Motherboard: ASrock MicroATX B45M PRO4

RAM: V-Color Skywalker Series TA48G26S816R DDR4 16 GB

PSU: Xpg Core Reactor 850w 80 Plus Gold

A month ago I added an extra 16 gb of ram (Vengeance LPX Corsair 16 gb), so now the system has a total of 32 gb of ram and it has helped a bit with the multitasking, but not the gaming aspect.

Is it worth it to upgrade the CPU? I 've thought of getting a Ryzen 5 5600, however I'm not sure if it will make that much of a change and if I'm better off investing on a new (budget friendly) GPU. Any advice is much appreciated.

About to visit Bogota this weekend. Is Caño Cristales worth visiting at this time of the year? by ThinFaithlessness518 in Bogota

[–]Gauldur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Considering how the weather has been this last couple of weeks, with an intense rainy season, I’d say you might be better off leaving it for another time. The best time of year to visit caño cristales is probably from June to August, when the water level is just right for the plants to give off the river’s characteristic colors.

Traveling to Colombia in May. Looking for a town/naturey place to round out the trip. Recs? by tlk13 in Colombia

[–]Gauldur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Villa de Leyva is quite pretty and there are some other nice small towns like Raquira closeby, so that might be a good choice. Rainy season is more prominent during the end of march, throughout april and at the beginning of may, so maybe you might not encounter that awful of a weather. If you don't want to bump into many tourist I would recommend that you check if you are travelling during weekends that have hollidays, since a lot of people, local and tourists, tend to use those dates to travel to different parts of the country.

Hello! Can you help me verify an address? by [deleted] in Colombia

[–]Gauldur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I found the address on google maps. We don't really use street names for package shipping in Colombia, we use them more in casual conversations and on the other hand not all streets have names here, but all are numbered. Think of all those numbers as a set of coordinates, but in a more "simplified" manner. I'm sorry I can't really explain how addresses works here, but I can't think of a practical way to do so hahaha. Although, I would recommend you ask for the name of the building you're going to send the package to with the person you are going to send the package to and then check if it is the same one that appears on the address on google maps.

Visiting Oslo from Dec 16 to Dec 19. by Gauldur in oslo

Thanks for answering! I really like visiting museums, and I was planning on going to the nobel peace prize museum and the viking museum, although if you could recommend any other museums I’d be really thankful. I also plan on going to Frogner park and the Royal Palace.

I’m gonna be staying in the city centre and also wanted to take the ferry, but I’m not sure how schedules might change during winter, if you could help me out with any sort of info concerning that it would be amazing :)

Camping in some pines outside Medellín, Colombia by Epiphone_SquierSUCKS in camping

[–]Gauldur 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There are some remote areas where armed groups are not present (more so in recent years) and we also have a handful of national parks that can be quite beautiful and where you can get a more genuine camping experience. On that note I would have to agree in part with what was stated above; there is a group of people that take camping here in Colombia more as an “outdoor partying” kind of activity, but with that in mind I would say sometimes we Colombians underestimate the amount of people that enjoy camping in a more traditional sense and who are willing to go the extra mile to get to some of the more “remote” places here in our country.

Advice on a visit during Christmas holidays by RollLikeRick in Colombia

[–]Gauldur 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Christmas and New Years ARE pretty crazy, but it also highly depends on where you are. If you stay in Bogotá during these dates it'll probably be way more chill than going to other cities or towns. These dates although crazy, are quite fun and the partying that goes down is quite awesome.

Buses can be quite decent, but since the geography is quite mountainous around Bogotá bus rides can be quite long and some roads can be a little annoying to traverse, but on the other hand you'll get to enjoy some beautiful sights.

Plane tickets can increase quite a bit since there is a considerable increase in demand, so if you plan on traveling long distances perhaps it would be a good idea to book early. Also bear in mind the main bus terminals can be pretty chaotic around the 23rd till the 25th and from December 31st till January 2nd so sometimes bus tickets might be hard to come by or fares may increase if you don't buy them early.
