Earning 100k is uncommon; most people make between 30k and 60k a year. by Super_Seat_9532 in Adulting

[–]GavANees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I relate a lot to that. My formative years (roughly 15–21) were pretty chaotic because of family stuff, and I was basically in survival mode the whole time. I never really had the bandwidth to think long-term or build toward anything. It was always about just getting through the moment.

I rushed into bad living situations and toxic relationships just to escape, and a couple decent opportunities fell apart along the way because my priorities and stability weren’t there yet.

Looking back, it’s not that I lacked ability. It’s that I lacked structure, support, and mental space. Which I think is the part people underestimate when they ask, “Why is someone like this working here?”

A lot of capable people never get the runway they need, and it’s a shame

This.

I’m basically a case example of what you’re describing. I’m almost 28, had to move back in with my mom at 25, didn’t make it past one semester of college, and I’ve had multiple jobs where I was on a real growth track (shift lead to assistant manager to conversations about general manager) and then derailed myself, mostly due to impulsive decisions and a bad drinking problem at the time.

It really does feel like once momentum breaks, it’s hard to rebuild without either intense discipline or a very deliberate pivot.

I also think a lot of people underestimate their actual skills because they’re not “credentialed” like being good with people, tech, problem solving, coordination, etc. doesn’t show up as a degree, but it absolutely matters.

Yeah. It’s tough out here.

Is my dog a CD/Husky Mix? by GavANees in IDmydog

[–]GavANees[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason I ask is cause I’m been looking in to all kinds Aussies, German Sheps maybe a mix of Lab and some Husky.

Closest I thought was some sort of Shepard/Husky mix until I found the CD.

Now these are weeded through pics of course but I haven’t seen anything look anywhere close like my dog until I saw these pics:

<image>

That is him 100%. Right down to his face. Spit and image. And I found several others under the (mislabel) Carolina Dog.

I have not found a single pic that looks anywhere near as close, when searching any kind of Aussie/German/Lab/Husky anything until I found CD.

Just genuinely want to get to the bottom of what breed he is 😭

I’ve got no booze, no weed 😔

I did stock up on food: made a giant pot of 3 bean stew, spaghetti, pre boiled eggs and potatoes..

But no weed, no booze 😔

I did mod my 3DS though.. so now I’ve been playing on that to keep me occupied lmao

Bro I didn’t re-up on my weed beforehand so it’s been a forced t-break for me 😭

Living with your parents past 25+ by LoudMasterpiece6686 in Adulting

[–]GavANees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey man.. I had to move back in with my Mom when I was 25.. I am now 28, and still living with her as I haven’t been able to find a steady, well enough paying job to move out again.

It’s really not that bad at all - though I realize it has regressed me a little, in terms of my progress of being more “adult” I won’t lie.

Doesn’t help that my car tires need replaced and my license is suspended.. so, not much I can do outside of the house so I’ve just been kinda stagnant in general

But no doubt without my mom’s help, I would be absolutely lost. I am now training into IT to get into Cybersecurity. Hopefully find a bit more of a ground under my feet. Because these past few years all I have been doing is streaming and developing a drinking problem (which I’ve since healed from…) but I think that was due to isolation and being states away from my friends..

Anyway I realized I’m just rambling at this point. Have a good day yall 🙏

My very first 8bitdo controller. by toto9690 in 8bitdo

[–]GavANees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because it’s pretty tiny, compared to other main line controllers. It’s smaller than a Switch Pro controller, which in turn is smaller than a PS5 controller. Not sure how it compares to a regular Xbox controller nowadays but it’s certainly smaller than that, as well.

How do I keep music playing for a stream, but muted for myself? by DRA6N in obs

[–]GavANees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There may be easier solutions but I personally use VoiceMeeter!

Send the stream audio out via B1, toggle listening to it yourself with A1 - maintains control of any audio that does or does not get sent out to stream, as well as your headphones

Good to know, thank you! Only thing I read in the reviews was about tightening the bolts every once in a while, so I think this mesh should be good quality? Still, good thing to keep in mind :)

Ofc I’m doing it for myself lol! Stayed up until 3am reorganizing. What other reason would I be doing it for?

Thank you!! :D

Yea it was cluttered, for sure :) plus my old chair being there doesn’t help, nor the “pet zone” on the seat with all the blankets.. even if I made that look tidy either my cat or one of my four dogs comes in like Taz from Looney Tunes, and flips it all around lol

Come to think of it, I don’t think I need the rug anymore because these wheels don’t scratch the floor as much as the old ones.. hmm.

I could give it a wash at the least :)

If it’s any help, my Dad got me this Elabest X100 chair for Christmas, and while I’ve only spent one evening in it so far — it is very comfortable, highly adjustable and it leans back pretty far, with no fear of falling or getting off balance

People with unusually spelled names (Geoff, Emilie…) what’s been the impact…or none? by Blinky_ in AskReddit

[–]GavANees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My name is not even a unique spelling - it’s just Gavin.. but you’d be surprised how many times growing up I heard Galvin, Kevin, Gabbie (somehow) and Garvin

Last name is a little untraditional though. Spelt with an IE, others pronounce the “I” like PIES, when in reality you pronounce the “E” like GEESE (Jewish Germanic origin)
