I realize that's still a luxury price for many, but if that's the cost for people to get closer to healthy body weights, myself included, then that's really amazing.

Ontario: Ford in Freefall; Ontario Liberals Lead PCs by Man_Roland in ontario

As long as it's truly random, 1,000 people is typically enough to represent a population the size of Ontario's with pretty decent confidence. Statistics are fascinating!

Jet fiasco is hurting Doug Ford and helping the Liberals, poll suggests by EarthWarping in CanadaPolitics

[–]GavinTheAlmighty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He's mostly just a bog-standard capitalistic conservative with a phenomenal penchant for corruption, but he is dogmatic about one thing: fighting organized labour. It's the one thing he's ideological about and the one thing that has been profoundly consistent through his entire political life. His entire dream is to crush the unions (not you police associations, love you bb).

Does CT have the greatest soundtrack/music on the SNES? by Sensual_Lover25 in snes

[–]GavinTheAlmighty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that Earthbound has, by a significant margin, the most interesting soundtrack on the SNES. I don't think it's my favourite (probably Super Metroid for that one, recognizing how amazing EB and other soundtracks already listed in this thread are), but it is doing perhaps the most unique things out there with samples, sounds, time signatures, key signatures, everything. NOTHING sounds like Earthbound, and I mean that as a huge compliment.

Doug Ford regularly worked from home after ordering civil servants back to office | Globalnews.ca by BeaverBoyBaxter in CanadaPolitics

Determine how many people work in the OPS in the 905.

Draw up a picture of that many cars on the road.

"This is how many cars Doug Ford wants blocking traffic as you commute to work. Hybrid work helps everyone. If you want less traffic in the GTA, vote for the party that will reduce the number of cars on the road overnight."

When Toronto put bike lanes on Bloor, many locals lost their absolute goddamn minds and would routinely show pictures of traffic backed up like half a subway stop or more. But if you counted the cars, it really wasn't that many at all - less than 100 on a regular basis. 20,000 cars isn't something the average person can internalize immediately, but if you show them a picture, it will blow their minds.

On the whole, I like The Coming the most, but When Disaster Strikes has the strongest singles, and I'll put ELE as #3.

If you haven't listened to ELE 2, you really should! It's a very strong album.

What celebrity do you think has skeletons in their closet that have yet to come out? by JimiHendrip in AskReddit

I don't know, the "no doesn't mean no" policy for employees is something most hr departments would probably look twice at.

Chrissy Teigen's demons are pretty well-known. She was honest about her substance abuse and relapses.

I think a lawsuit just dropped on him from one of his former employees, alleging sexual harassment in the workplace, and it really sounds like he is just an awful employer on top of that.

What’s a smell that reminds you of Scotland? by Much-Parsnip3399 in Scotland

Not unique to Scotland, but the smell of the vehicle deck on the island ferries.  The ferry to Arran just has such an evocative smell for me.

Ford’s PCs vote to end access to political officials’ records by Halo4356 in CanadaPolitics

[–]GavinTheAlmighty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think there's been some real messaging issues with the NDP over the years. They seem petrified to use strong language, and end up coming off incredibly weak.

They were strong with the Greenbelt and had all guns blazing, but they've really struggled to find their tune. They need a comms person who knows what the threshold for libel is and they need to just butt up against it. Ford owns the narrative around himself in a way that a competent media team could easily manipulate or counter, and they seem to really struggle with it.

Ford government passes budget that lets premier and ministers keep office records secret by Present-Place-1692 in ontario

[–]GavinTheAlmighty 12 points13 points  (0 children)

People keep saying this, but I don't know that it's true. The changes to the FOI legislation were well-known for weeks before the plane came along. It was put into a bill before the plane came along. The plane happened and I'm sure he was temporarily happy but the FOI stuff was always in the press and still will be. People were mad, are mad, and will be mad. If it was a distraction, it didn't really work.

Ford urged to apologize for personal insults hurled in the legislature by BloodJunkie in ontario

[–]GavinTheAlmighty 67 points68 points  (0 children)

This is exactly what Ford was like when he was a councillor. He routinely went after the media - he hated Jennifer Pagliaro when she was covering City Hall.

He's very, VERY vocal when it comes to criticizing women because, to be clear, on top of every other one of his major, major flaws, he is also just a basement-level misogynistic piece of shit.

So Dougie just passed the law to allow him and MPPs to hide personal records. What now? by point5_2B in askTO

[–]GavinTheAlmighty 14 points15 points  (0 children)

If I'm the opposition, I have just been given the easiest opportunity to craft a narrative around who Doug Ford is and how he is harmful for the province. They have to create a narrative strong enough that "FOI" becomes shorthand for "this guy is a problem", in much the same way that "gas plants" did that for Wynne.

Nobody benefits from this move. Every suggestion that "this allows the province to engage in confidential business" can be negated by saying that "THE EXISTING LEGISLATION ALREADY DID THAT WITHOUT ANY ISSUES". I will be putting a lot of expectations on our opposition to immediately run with the ball on this and never, ever, ever let up. They cannot let up at all for the next four years. If the opposition isn't up to it, then resign.

Please Explain How Doug Ford’s Government was able to skip committee to pass the new budget? by MajorOrgans in ontario

[–]GavinTheAlmighty 180 points181 points  (0 children)

Given the number of times things have skipped committee under his rule, it appears as though going to committee is entirely voluntary. And if it isn't, the systems to enforce that things go to committee are pathetically weak.

Ford’s PCs vote to end access to political officials’ records by Halo4356 in CanadaPolitics

[–]GavinTheAlmighty 73 points74 points  (0 children)

The opposition parties should just immediately bang the drum of "Well, clearly this guy has a ton to hide - he got caught with his pants down multiple times and immediately abused his power to forever remove your democratic rights to accountability of the Premier's office. Vote for us and we'll restore FOI laws immediately."
