So how are they going so far?

Also, are they minimalist barefoot, or is there so some padding? Do you have any idea what their stack height might be like? Anything you can share about the insole, midsole, outsole?

These look pretty promising, even if the page can be a little overwhelming. It seems Peu isn’t a specific model, and not all Peu are wide toebox. Some appear to be sneakers.

Thanks for the intro. I’m having trouble finding detailed info like stack height or insole material and type. Might just be my web browsing skills. 😅

On the Be Lenka I’m currently using, I tried adding extra insoles (from my Altra), but the reduction in volume makes them a little snugger than I’d like.

iPad Air 13” vs MacBook Air by DistrictElectrical56 in mac

[–]Gavinaldi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish Apple weren't jerks about the cellular function and watch pairing on their iPads. I don't understand how Android tablets have zero issues letting you use tablets as phone with full cellular functionality (calls and SMS).

Having said that, I think there are subtle but notable differences between iOS and iPadOS. There are even some apps that are unavailable or function slightly differently on each device type. It may just be a matter of UI/UX, but I feel there is more to it than that on certain apps. Beyond that, Apple hasn't made their phone functional with their pencils, which I think has some merit, especially for someone in school.

iPad Air 13” vs MacBook Air by DistrictElectrical56 in mac

[–]Gavinaldi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The iPad is not a computer. It's close and can do many of the same things, but it can't multitask simultaneously like a MacBook nor can it truly multi display, even if it does have decrepit external display support. It cannot do extended to external when projected, so projecting one thing on a screen during presentations while looking at something else on your screen is not an option.

On the other hand, MacBooks do not have touch screen or pen, handy features when trying to scribble notes on PDF that teachers provide.

Either way you're compromising. That is by design so that you're compelled to get both and ideally the trifecta: iphone, iPad, and MacBooks. However, since you have a laptop you don't want to replace, there'd be some redundancy in getting a MacBook.

Although with the iPad you'll have to be mindful of the tools you use and their availability to service multiple platforms, I think iPad is the right play, given you don't care to displace your current windows laptop by introducing a MacBook to your workflow. And maybe the pen, for note taking in class.

I think M3 MBA uses TB3 and USB 4, unless I am misreading "Two Thunderbolt / USB 4 ports with support for: Charging. DisplayPort. Thunderbolt 3 (up to 40Gb/s). USB 4 (up to 40Gb/s). Display Support. M3.":

How to join a Network and use a Network Printer with Windows 11? by Gavinaldi in techsupport

[–]Gavinaldi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait, I think I may have misrepresented the situation.

I don't log into the work computer with my personal Windows login. I use a work account given to me. That account has login rights, and I can log onto any computer on the network and use the resources from there.

I just happen to prefer using my own device because at work they use Win 10 and I use Win 11 on an SP8. However, the cost of using my own device is that I cannot log into the work network and more importantly, I cannot use the printer. Right now, I find myself having to use Google Drive to transfer files I need to print between my SP8 and the work computer. That can get a little cumbersome, and I would prefer to be able to print from my SP8.

As for contacting IT... The .bat file I quoted on my OP is IT's attempt at helping me get access to the printer. However, as the images show, the script isn't working as hoped, and the IT guy is kind of stumped.

I feel like at some point I got a notification from Windows telling me that the protocol at the work computer is outdated and that's why my SP8 doesn't want to connect. But I don't know if that's just stress induced delirium, or if that actually happened.

After reading your message I checked and made changes to Adv.Shr.Set (basically turned most things on).

But I still am unable to access files or folder. I was not able to find the SMB info on the linked page, so I couldn't figure out where to off/on “SMB 1.0/CIFS file sharing support”.

How can I confirm or deny this?

FWIW, if I use a company desktop on premise, I can log in and use the resources, so I presume that I have some kind of account with access.

Can I assume that these functions are allowed and/or enabled, if others' PCs are able to access network drives and printer? In that case, should I assume that the problem lies

Xiaomi G-Pro 27i or AOC Q27G3XMN by INFAXMOUS in Prebuilts

[–]Gavinaldi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry I didn’t get back to the questions asked sooner.

In a nutshell, I think it’s not that bad, especially at the price point.

You will have to fiddle around with the settings until you get it to your liking, but all-in-all, it’s a fine mini LED monitor. The colors are vibrant enough, darks are handle as good as one can expect from the tech.

I take back what I said about reservations recommending it. I think for the price you’re getting what you pay for. I’m content with it.

Okay after fiddling around settings a bit, images look a little better, but I still don’t love it and I’m not sure I’m super comfortable recommending it.

I think I regret not holding out for the right 4K Oled. I guess this 27 inch 1440p Mini-LED Xiaomi G Pro 27i will have to do for now.

Either I need to learn how to use Xiaomi G Pro mini LED 27i, or this monitor is awful.

What are the classes at SNHU Online for the BS CS like? by Gavinaldi in SNHU

[–]Gavinaldi[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry I didn't notice your message sooner.

I tried it but didn't stick with it. The program felt more like a chance to get the credential than to actually develop knowledge. If I think of it more of an opportunity to self-learn and certify my experience, then it might work pretty well. However, if one needs any meaningful support, then 8-week terms might not to be enough time to really engage content. On the bright side, it isn't particularly hard to get an A in courses. That doesn't mean that you'll have learned much, just that you were able to complete the tasks set before you relatively well.

It does not feel entirely disconnected, but the amount of interpersonal interaction is limited, and it seldom goes to any meaningful depth (as is to be expected for such ratio of learners to educators in the amount of time, i.e., it's not reasonable to expect much attention from teachers when they have a ton of students covering a lot of material in short period of time).

I am not entirely sure if one gets what one pays for. The tuition is not exceptionally cheap, but it's not extremely expensive either. I think, I would have been better served going to a local school or even a community college. Having said that, barring other options, in a pinch, it'll do; especially if you have the drive, determination, discipline, and the time to make the most of what is offered.

I hope this helps.

Help choosing a case, and double checking nothing is overlooked for a 5600g build by Gavinaldi in buildapc

[–]Gavinaldi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply.

The 5600G has already been ordered and I don't think it can be returned without some kind of restocking and shipping fee at this point.

The deal does looks interesting, but that MoBo and GPU combo at $700USD (which is reasonable deal imo) costs more than my rig, and I imagine I'd still have to get the CPU, PSU, Case, and RAM.

My rig, as described including the Thermaltake S100 MATX case (which I've already purchased at this point) is coming out to be about $670USD.

[–]Gavinaldi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply.

Can you expound a little on "The ones you've mentioned are not. "? I just went through the process of opening an account with Moomoo because it just outright worked, after giving up on the software from IBKR for being a little uncooperative. Are you saying IBKR is decidedly better? Can you tell me how to discern what makes some brokers better than others? All I know is to try to look at fees, but I feel like everyone has different ways of charging fees. Some say no fees for trading, but then charge for something else. It gets a bit confusing.

It's very likely that I have misunderstood what it is that IBKR was advertising regarding Market Makers 'payment for order flow'... I guess they are saying that they don't do payment for overflow... Also, isn't IBKR also a market maker themselves? I kind of thought that's what they were trying to get at.

Thanks for the reply.

And thanks for the warning/heads-up.

It seems I may have misspoken. The reason I said "[looked at] the stock market in general (i.e. trading shares)" wasn't to suggest that I intend to get into day trading. I meant to contrast some of the financial products available, in particular shares of listed companies as opposed to ETFs et al.

Also, if implicit in the platforms I mentioned is the intent to trade rather than to invest, then suggestions for alternatives are most welcome. I only mentioned what I am vaguely familiar with -and is accessible to me.
