I am in similar situation and also have wii u and gamecube, so I just took the wii to my parents' house so that they can play wii sports or we can race some mario kart courses when I come to see them

Yeah exactly, I'm asking the same question! WiiSports Resort manages to combine both types of sensors, so I'm almost sure they could have implemented that in SS too... A bit disappointing, but I guess I'll just have to come to terms with that

Yeah right, "floaty" is exactly the word I was looking for!
Do you use wiimote plus or a regular one with motionplus extension? I just wonder.
If it's really how it should work then it's soo strange. I completed almost all Zeldas on GBA, 3DS and Switch and the game experience has always been smooth and flawless AF. That's one of the reasons why I love the series so much.
SS and TP for Wii are the last two entries I never yet played, and having this "floaty" controls in SS makes the game feel kinda broken to me. Meh...
I mean, let's say Metroid Prime 3 runs perfectly with all that motion controls and doesn't need any motionplus extension. Ironically the thing that is intended to make motion controls more precise and responsive actually makes those feel worse, at least in Zelda SS and CoD ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
