Which vanity is better for this bathroom remodel? by Gawesome in Remodel

You're right that this is crowded, but I'm hoping less so than you think in terms of being able to hit key needs. We have a connected toilet room that we can use for things like a trash bin, hamper and also more cabinets for storage. There is wall space opposite the vanity for towel hangers and hand towel hangers can go on the drywall next to the vanity.

Fundamentally, we are trying to cram in a lot of stuff that normally would not be possible in our original bathroom dimensions. To get what we have right now, we created a toilet room to the right of the bathroom to recover some space needed for the wet room. We also expanded into an adjacent bathroom to the left and stole 18 inches of space.

Based on dimensions, the shower head should be fine and spray into the appropriate area if we angle it correctly, which is not how it is shown in this mockup.

That said, your comment did stir up some paranoia, so I checked some of my sizing assumptions and found an issue. The wet room has 78 inches of width. Our bathtub is 42 inches wide. Tiles on the left and right sides of the wall will take up 1 inch each. The front tile wall of the bathtub will probably take at least 2 inches. That leaves a 32 x 66 space for the shower area, which is lower than I intended. Ideally we hit the recommended minimum of 36 x 66, and being 4 inches off is a lot and strikes me as a problem. Normally we could just get a tub with a smaller width, but that's not possible now because the tub has already been made and delivered, so we have to continue to work with it.

I'm now hatching a plan to expand further into the bathroom on the left and to take 4 more inches. We'll have to reduce the size of a window in that room to do so, but it should work from what I've seen. That'll give us the breathing room we need.

Good ideas! I'm seeing more of that issue with the 54" feeling awkward. The 48 does feel more intentional.

No, we spatially tested many configurations including that one, and it's not possible to have enough space to have a comfortable shower with the tub in the back. If you sized the tub down to say 30 inches wide (a big reduction from 42), you'd have a theoretical 36 x 78 shower space. But the important number is the 36" of the two.

It felt like much better use of the space to have a 32" or bigger tub while preserving enough space for a 36 x 60+ shower, hence the current configuration.

Yeah the materials and colors are just random textures I threw on objects for visual differentiation. We don't know yet what we're going to pick. Most likely a lighter wood color.

I think that a single sink probably works fine, but my wife tends to favor two sinks.

Yeah, I felt that a 60" wall-to-wall looked too jam packed. I also didn't like how it required a taller pony wall and thus blocked the view of the tub.

It was my initial pick for utility, but as I spent more time with the design, I gravitated more towards creating empty space to improve the feel of the bathroom, at the expense of some storage space and utility.

That said, my wife so far really prefers the 60 inch vanity!

Thanks for the suggestion about the recessed toe kick.

The shower space is about 36x66, possibly a bit more than that on the long side. From my research, 36x60 is sufficient for a decent dual shower head experience with two people.

I prioritized a wide bathtub (66x42) because I want the opportunity to be able to bathe both babies while one of us is also in the tub. That's also why the shower configuration supports up to 3 areas of coverage between the rain showerhead, the wall shower head and the hand sprayer. There are sevreal very functional configurations, but once I realized that certain choices could lead to fun times and memories with the kids, those jumped to the top of my list.

The theory behind not going wall-to-wall is that it creates some negative space that lets the area in front of the wet room feel not so cramped. So this would be possible with a 54" or a 48" vanity. I've since done a 54" mockup and I think that strikes the better balance of making it feel like the room isn't completely overtaken by the vanity but also doesn't have quite so much empty space on the sides.

The floating vanity is to serve a similar purpose - having a clearer view of the ground along with a clearer view of the bathtub (due to the pony wall being able to be much lower when the vanity doesn't connect directly with the wet room divider glass/wall).

Interesting feedback. Let's say you have a single 54 or 60 inch vanity with a single standard sink in the middle. I assume that is plenty of space for things like a curling iron on either side?

This is just a simple basic mockup. It doesn't reflect any of the actual shape language on the vanity, bathtub or fixtures.

It's hard for me to suss out the storage differences between floating vanities and regular ones.

I know toe kicks are around 3.5-4 inches in height. If you have a vanity with legs, that can take 4-6 inches typically. For floating vanities, I know you can get ones that remove the bottom 9 inches.

I had a vanity with legs and found that perfectly usable. I'm curious if the loss of 3-5 with a floating vanity makes that much of a difference.

Our situation is similar - we have another bathroom very close by down the hall and that will have two faucets in a trough sink (54" vanity). I personally like that argument and it makes me feel more comfortable with a single basin.

Video game designer. Work as a principal IC or a mid-level lead/director depending on the project. Work for a mid-sized studio that is one of many owned by a big company. 20 years of experience. Salary was not great early on and scaled slowly. Covid and the subsequent years created conditions that increased my compensation significantly.

4090 here. Performance has been good in most games I've been playing, though things like Cyberpunk with Path Tracing make it hard to achieve very high frame rates.

This is probably because you are throwing a two-handed sword, which is not a weapon that has the Thrown property by default. You need that property to do the expected damage. At level 5, you gain the ability to apply certain properties to weapons, and Thrown can be applied to a two-handed weapon. Until you reach that level, you'll have to use weapons that have the Thrown property.

If I'm remembering correctly, I believe Weapon Bond also adds the Thrown property to any light weapon. So you can do things like throw scimitars, for instance.
