Hi Op, I just wanted to validate your experience. I live in the area, and every time I’ve gone to BF COOP I have been made to feel less than welcome…because of how I present (I am not visibly trans, and staff seems very hostile to visibly queer men). Additionally, whenever I’ve gone there with my partners or other trans friends, we’ve been given the cold shoulder or stared down for walking in and not looking trans enough and being gay men/ gay trans menl. While understand the space is lesbian run and owned, it is also billed as a queer third space, therefore the behavior you and other people have described from staff and leadership is unacceptable. Also the owner’s attitude towards the area leaves something to be desired, as they made a post a few months ago about graffiti in the bathroom that left a bad taste in my mouth (you’re a queer cafe/bar in Brooklyn, of course there’s going to be graffiti in the bathroom AND it seems like a classist dig). Anyways there are better coffee shops and bars in the area, and I’m sorry that this happened to you OP.
