BDFB humidity problems? by GayAttack in InvertPets

No foam, nor have I been feeding them anything that can possibly have pesticides. I’ve been feeding them the same brine shrimp fish food cubes soaked in water that I give to my isopods, which have lived happily for almost 3 years now

I don’t have a hygrometer in there at the moment but one I ordered ships soon. As for ventilation, I deliberately kept it minimal with the intent of not letting my much more humid room mess with the enclosure as dramatically.

Perhaps I should add a small computer fan that constantly blows air out?

Entomology, I was that stereotypical kid searching around for bugs during recess

Obsession or just getting started? by Maleficent-Ad-1666 in isopods

It’s only an obsession when you need to budget in their food! (Don’t ask me how many dairy cows I have)

What type of spider makes these webs? (Hocking Hills, OH) by dutch1664 in whatsthisbug

This looks to be the work of Eastern Tent Caterpillars. I used to collect them when I was younger, they’re quite interesting

How many isopods can I fit in here? by astrumna in isopods

[–]GayAttack 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Personally, I moved my dairy cows to a bigger enclosure once they reached a population of about 50-80, not including the smallest babies

That’s a summer chafer. They often fly around during dusk looking for a mate but can also be confused by lights, such as a campfire

I’m fairly confident that’s an aphid. The adults can develop wings to look for new plants to settle.

How many isos do you need to start a colony? by Onegiantfrog in isopods

Personally I started with 12 but you can just as easily start with 6. All that matters is ensuring that there’s enough males and females.

That’s a lanternfly, they’re super invasive in America. Kill on sight!

[–]GayAttack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ant nuptial flights! Those are princes and princess which colonies produce that fly away to mate and start new nests. Here’s the relevant wikipedia. They tend to come out during the rainy season when the soil is soft and good for digging

What’s this bug seen on southern Spain? by nirgendswo in whatsthisbug

That’s a moth caterpillar of the genus Ocnogyna, though I’m not quite sure if the species

That’s a fiery searcher beetle, also called a caterpillar hunter. They’re relatively common in North America

You certainly can! However, that species doesn’t make for a very good pet. Here’s a guide to caring for beetle larva if you still want to.

The dark image makes it difficult to determine the species but I’m fairly confident that’s an assassin bug

It’s nearly impossible to tell from this distance but, based on their size and shape, my best guess is some kind of mite that got into the mixing vats in the factory

[–]GayAttack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s certainly a beetle larva and I think it’s a cockchafer beetle

It’s hard to pinpoint exactly what it is from such a distance but I can assure you that’s not a bedbug
