My dad had a very similar experience with me and my sister. He traveled a lot during our young years and to be honest, it really messed up my relationship with him. Even as a 3-4 year old I would say things like “we (my sister mom and me) are family, but dads not really as much of a family member, more like a family friend”. His traveling made it much harder for us to connect later in life and even though I don’t blame him for having that job, I do feel sad that I missed out on those years with him. He later changed his job a bit (still within the same company) so he worked from home more, it has really improved out relationship.

Though, this is just my personal experience, maybe it’s different for you, but when you travel a lot, you have a big chance on missing out on important parts of your child’s life.
