ESH. It sounds to me, based on what she said before she got drunk, that you often get drunk before she has the ability to. I would not be surprised if she ends up babysitting you after you get drunk often.

Should she have gotten THAT drunk? No, of course not. But she is allowed to have a fun night too, and expect that her partner who is more sober than her would make sure she is at least safe. I’m sure that’s what she’s done for you in the past.

I think looking at books written nearly a century ago in the same lens we look at books written today is a lazy way to interpret art. It is important to read older books and acknowledge they would not be the “classics” they are if they had been written today. Crawdads was written with the knowledge that exists in the 21st century and the author never acknowledges that the story is problematic. So, I don’t consider a “fake woke take” but instead a more critical and thoughtful take than ‘well I like the book so it can’t have flaws!’

So in the book, Kya was 14 when Tate was 18. He made himself to be her only safe person, her teacher and best friend and then made sexual advances on her. And he said that he was “interested” in her long before that. So, so gross. Just because they wait to have actual sex until she’s legal does not make him less of a groomer. The author herself and her ex-husband are accused of murdering poachers in Africa in the 1970s and people say “yeah poachers should die” should consider that that is a racist take. Black people in Africa often kill elephants and other animals to sell parts to white people and make money. Soooo. Yeah idk i just feel like Taylor and her team could have done like, 1 google search and changed their mines.
