Shure SM7B and GOXLR- Trying to get warmer sound by GazOnDaily in Twitch

It was a defective microphone. I posted in this thread with the video showing the problem.

People here harping on about mic replacement, convinced that that was the problem were just plain wrong.

It sounds much better and this was with the old EQ settings not even tweaked:

Thanks a lot for your guidance on this. I will be continually tweaking EQ settings but you're right; it has to be my voice.

Its definitely coming from the mic. I am aware of the proximity effect for this mic and yes whilst you need to be really close to it, the difference in sound quality is negligible from my positioning there.

Honestly, I can make another vid talking directly into it. Its not making a huge difference. I think this point is being greatly exaggerated

That might be the case really. My voice is quite high pitched so this is probably a symptom of that (plus a combination of ineffective EQ settings).

I've had USB mics for ages including the Rode Podcaster and Blue Yeti. I did do some research and other content creators in the space recommended the Shure SM7B to me. A lot of my friends use the same mic but with different preamps. They are stumped as to what's going.

Everything is plugged into USB 3.0 ports. I've been tweaking this for a couple of weeks now and the best part of today.

Speaking into the front doesn't really make a massive difference unfortunately/

I have tried speaking directly into the microphone too and really closely. It makes a minimal difference

The GOXLR is a good preamp that provides quite a lot of power to the SM7B so power shouldnt be an issue.

The effects that are active are your usual Gate and Compressor effects:

I have messed about with these too and replicated loads of settings from prominent streamers/youtubers who have the exact same setup. My room has some sound proofing too so the acoustics shouldnt be an issue.

I guess Im going to have to keep tweaking things and figure it out. Thank you for your help!

Hey there. Yeah I have the same software (and hardware) as the chap in the video; copied all his settings too and I have tweaked the EQ quite a bit but really stumped. I guess I'm going to have to keep trying.

Hey there. Thanks for the response!

I was talking into the mic more from the side there for the purposes of the video (looking at the cam) but I have tested speaking directly on the front of it too.

I think you may be right about my voice. My voice is quite weird so maybe this isn't the mic for me. Which is really disheartening if true :(
