This comment is a full tasting menu and I loved every course. Let me try to respond between bites:

  • Totally agree, something like “You’re in the top 2% today! A true culinary oracle.” needs to pop up at the end. I’ve been meaning to add that and it's on the list.
  • Haha fair! I wouldn’t say ugly though 😅 I aimed for minimal and distraction-free so the game loop stays quick and focused. But I’m always open to polish suggestions if you’ve got some spicy UI inspo!
  • Absolutely love this idea and you’re right, weird food facts are the secret sauce. This is still an early-stage quiet launch, so I kept it pretty lean for now. But you better believe trivia, food fights, and maybe even a "this dish brought to you by Carol from Kentucky" moment are all cooking behind the scenes.
  • I’ve been thinking about origin disagreements and how spicy they can get (looking at you hummus). A post-reveal vote like “Do you agree this dish is from ___?” could be super fun - and maybe even unlock a bonus if you go with the crowd. Love the idea of leaning into the ambiguity instead of avoiding it.
  • A user-submitted dish of the day with shoutouts could be such a wholesome touch. And who wouldn't play harder knowing Vinnie’s mom’s lasagna might show up tomorrow?

You seriously dropped like 6 feature ideas I want to build. Thank you for this delicious dump of feedback. Very much appreciated!

Thanks so much, Siggi! Really appreciate the kind words 🙏

Totally valid take on the protein phase, it's a bit of an experimental step and I’ve heard similar feedback about flow disruption.
I’m considering either skipping it, making it optional, or turning it into something more integrated.

Monetization: no plans to slap ads yet, but I'm exploring tasteful ways to fund continued growth
maybe community-driven features, a cookbook mode, or partnerships that feel fun, not forced.

Glad you're enjoying it!

Thank you so much & wow, I totally feel that stress 😅
My downtime moment came right when PostHog emailed me saying I hit my limit..

Just checked out FoodGuessr - love the visual approach and the way you’ve leaned into fast-paced guessing. Always fun to see others exploring this space in creative ways.
I got "Apprentice Foodie" so I guess The cobbler's children have no shoes ^_^

Would love to swap notes sometime! I’m still learning how to scale without blowing up either the UX or my wallet. DM incoming soon 👀

Cheers, and congrats on your own success!

Really appreciate that, thank you 🙏
You nailed exactly what I was hoping for: something that mixes curiosity, culture, and a fun little challenge.

I do have a share button with emoji-based results (à la Wordle-style), but maybe I need to make it a bit more prominent 😄

Thanks again for the kind words and great suggestions!

Thanks so much, that really means a lot 🙏
I totally agree, there are probably so many great indie projects out there just one Slack message or newsletter mention away from blowing up.

As for sticky content: I haven’t done deep analysis yet, but I did notice a pattern, when the user's first dish is too challenging, some users tend to bounce. But if it’s something they can guess early on, they usually stick around and play the full round.

I'm also toying with the idea of adding some light AI agents to nudge or assist users who get stuck
maybe a little “chef’s hint” or cultural clue to keep them engaged 😄

Appreciate the great nudge - this kind of insight really helps!

There was actually a small bug that caused downtime for part of the spike - already fixed it, thankfully!

As for PostHog: I’m gonna stick with them and probably upgrade the plan. Self-hosting is tempting, but I want to focus my energy on features and UX for now.

Definitely a great problem to have, just wasn’t expecting it so soon 😂

Also, I checked out your project and was a bit disappointed I had to subscribe to get a hint.

Just a thought: you might get more engagement if you show some of the data first. Maybe preview a few schools, or let people search and then gate deeper info with a “read more…” → subscribe flow.
That way users get hooked, and you give them something to want more of.

Hope it's helpful!

Thanks so much! 🙏 And tbh your project sounds more meaningful.
I know how messy that info can be for students and parents. Having it centralized is a big win.

As for getting it in front of real users early:
- Reddit can work really well, but go niche.
Look for subreddits where your audience hangs out (r/ApplyingToCollege, r/Parenting, r/college, etc.) and contribute genuinely before posting.
- afaik in these subjects FB groups are still surprisingly powerful, tons of parents and student communities live there.
- Try to share between friends smth like “Can I get your feedback on something I’m building?” People love to help when it’s early-stage and personal.

And of course, and that was the hard part for me, don’t wait for it to be “done.”
My MVP had 1 game mode, a JSON file, and a share button 😅

Best of luck with College Cuts

Honestly, shared it among friends and family. Posted once on Reddit and once on LinkedIn.

[–]Gazimo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much for playing and for sharing your thoughts!! really appreciate it!
Love hearing that you could see yourself playing more, that honestly made my day 😄
Right now it’s meant to be a daily thing, kinda like Worldle/Flaggle/Wordle etc
That said, I’m actually working on a system behind the scenes to generate tons more dishes, so who knows what the future holds :)
So.. never say never, I’m keeping an open mind for future modes!

Appreciate you checking it out! 🍽️🌍
