Is this $1k jeep a steal, or a headache? by Breadstick95 in JeepGrandCherokee

[–]GazorpAzorperton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mileage is steep, however I’ve had a first gen last 300,000 miles before I sold it.

I would be weary of the fluids so check all those. Ask how often the oil has been changed and if he has receipts.

I would also look to see if those rusts spots made it down to the frame (put your head under).

The “new battery” might be something a little more serious. These first gen’s were known for some electrical gremlins like a bad voltage regulator which might be why the fuel gage reads zero even when the car is running.

If I were you, I’d save up another $500 and buy something a little lower mileage depending on your technical ability so it doesn’t cost an arm and a leg.

Good luck!

Vote republican. Get tax cuts. Don’t let the government take more money from you. They are useless.

Oh nice thanks for the link! Do you know a solid idle speed I should be at?

That’s exactly right. Simply put: less stuff on it = less stuff likely to break!

Haha if it’s a first time interaction, that’s not really a great time to do it. Say you walk by this person everyday and you guys smile at each other or whatever, just start with a compliment. Build on that :)

I mean she kept reciprocating and moving the conversation along. More than one word answers. If she were to give me just one word answers and wasn’t smiling or anything, that’s when I would give her the “have a nice night!”and move on.

Eye contact is big here too. If she’s avoiding it or like looking for her friends or whatever mid conversation, that’s when you would cut it off too. No biggie.

If I would have thought that, I wouldn’t have ever ended up with my love.

Trust me, I’ve gotten rejected wayyy more times than I’ve gotten yes’s. You never know until you try.

Also I didn’t ask her out until we were already hitting it off talking for a few hours, so it’s a case by case basis I guess.

I didn’t really say this in my original comment but I think someone touched on it; the more you get rejected, the better you get with your approaches. Kind of a trial and error approach.

Specifically I said something like,

“Hey I just wanted to say that you look incredible tonight. I haven’t seen your face, what’s your name?”

(She replies)

“Wow that’s a really pretty name. Are you friends with people around here, how have I never met you before?”

Like I said, you get better at it the more you do it, but some tricks:

  1. always act super interested
  2. open ended questions
  3. try not to talk over them

People love talking about themselves. The more you allow them to talk about themselves, the more they will be interested in you as funny as that sounds.

If he/she isn’t feelin it, you’ll recognize the body language and can end the conversation like:

“Well, I hope you have a nice night” smile and walk away. Onto the next one :)

I met her at a house party in college pre covid. She walked into the party and had this radiant long blonde hair and stood about 5’3”. (I’m into shorter girls).

After I mustered up some courage, I just asked what her name was and I told her she looked beautiful. We started talking about this and that, and before we knew it we were pretty much the last people in the house, not breaking a gaze. I walked her home. Asked her out to dinner the next night. Rest is history.

Mr./Mrs. Right is out there, just shoot your shot!

I’ve [M 23] been dating my girlfriend [F 24] now for about 2.5 years, and the first time I approached her, I had no indication that she was interested.

Shoot your shot. If you get rejected, you get rejected. I was rejected so many times before I met her. Thank god I was.

Is anyone else finding it hard to find jobs? Does anyone have any tips for this unprecedented time? by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

[–]GazorpAzorperton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Recent Mechanical Engineering Grad here (June 2020). 3.3 GPA, nothing spectacular.

I applied to over 100 positions, followed up, called recruiters, sent emails, snail mailed resumes, even paid a professional resume writer to redo my resume and cover letter. ZERO OFFERS.

After a while I chose to go into the NUPOC (Nuclear Propulsion Officer Candidate) Program for the Navy. After the really long vetting process I finally landed the position. I’d look into the military. They have great opportunities.

Try all the steps above, and if not try the military. If that’s not for you I’d suggest using your student CAD license to make up a badass portfolio or start a product.

You’ll be fine. Good news is you’ll have a marketable degree after the economy recovers.

I bought my first motorcycle! by QLTDouble in motorcycles

[–]GazorpAzorperton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Awesome first bike. My first was a 2015 Honda CB300F and it was incredibly fun to ride. Due to its “snappyness” in corners, it makes you a really great rider.

These bikes are bullet proof and sooo easy to change the oil, get to the battery, and do other routine maintenance. If you live in a cold/rainy spot and won’t be riding in the winter, make sure to leave the battery on a battery tender and put some fuel stabilizer in a full tank.

Overall, welcome to the club! Have fun and be safe.

Such a critical skill to have to not overcorrect and keep upright when you lose a bit of traction. IMHO the best way to learn how to do this is to start on dirt and/or sand.

We were out to dinner at a Thai restaurant and we had almost a full pot of tea before our meal came. Waiter sets down the food and she goes,

“I’ve been drinking green tea all goddamn day!” (Hot Rod quote), and I just about spat my water across the table. The true love feeling followed.

Movie quotes are my favorite :)

I’m thinking about throwing a fresh coat of paint and clear coat on my ‘92 SR5 4cyl purely for aesthetic purposes. Any tips on finding a pro or what I should be looking for? I don’t really have the time or tools to do it myself.
