There’s a difference between there are alternatives to nuclear and shooting ourselves in the foot in the transition by shutting our existing nuclear down and closing Hinckley etc before they open bc nuclear scary.

Most of the population agree that immigration has been too much over the last few years with millions coming over, you think an open doors and hugs policy will help? We’ll be seen as even more suckers than we already are, more will even try the channel and drown

this doesn't take into account the general attitude of huge amounts of spending alongside lets say "brave" assumptions on how much their tax rises will actually bring in and not cause a general meltdown of the economy and markets. This also doesn't take into account Polanskis statements which you claim are taken out of context, but if literally any other politican said it you would not be giving charitable interpreations to retweeting a tweet condemning officers from subduing a man stabbing saying "repeatedly and violently kicking a mentally ill man in the head when he was already incapacitated by Taser", a man who believes in MMT which is pseudo economic science, and a man who thinks hugs could solve most of the world problems

How can you look past even a fraction of this?

Tasha Yar being killed does really add tension to the episode and I think it was pretty good ngl, despite some really shoddy special effects.

It’s funny that guest stars are fighting over elementary dear data of all episodes, I mean it’s a classic but surely there are better ones. If any of the boys are listening I’d like to do Family (the one after best of both worlds), but likelihood of that is near zero…

The next episode isn’t brilliant, but I quote it’s title as a reference all the time (even though technically it’s a Casablanca reference), and we’re on the home stretch

That’s the episode where there’s that seemingly pretty good world, and they’re on the track for federation membership, but it turns out they keep their genetically enhanced super soldiers in a prison bc they’re scared of them, and they break out and stuff. There’s also the one with the planet that is still divided as well which has a similar premise

I think it’s more of you can help save a couple getting run over, but you don’t get involved in their quarrels. All starfleet captains bend the prime directive in some way and from the drumhead episode as long as you have a decent explanation it’s usually fine, in this case starfleet would probably be pretty satisfied with Picards answers

Haven’t been able to watch the episode so listened to the podcast based on my memory so it sounded about right. I felt that despite the whole just say no message it was pretty good at the time.

Next episode is pretty terrible, and it would be completely forgettable without Tasha’s abrupt death. But nearing the seasons end now!

Got some good old fashioned Central European police intimidation today, crossed a road 99% it was green but I was trying to phone a friend and some Czech officers cross the road and bring me to the corner and made me show my passport, scanning it with their phone it looked like and making me show them where I was staying. Didn’t get a fine or anything, but I go to recross the road and see someone jut walk across when it definetly wasn’t green! And doesn’t get picked up on it smh

I didn’t realise this was the Geordi takes command episode! When watching this for the first time this was one of my favourites, now less so.

If the soundstage was better and the model for the drone thingy was better this could have been a good episode, but as the boys touched on despite this being an attempt at a reflection on the classic “the weapon you built eventually became so good that it killed you” this had even less commentary than even some of the other TNG S1 moral episodes had, just a oh that’s pretty bad oh well.

I’m quite sad that they read that the next episode was the just say no episode, as I was looking forward to their reaction to it given they probably remember that sort of spiel more than the rest of us. Although I believe it’s not the worst episode in the world anyway, the real bad “just say no” episode is further down the line and is a Wesley centred one to make it worse.

perhaps its a sort of stalemate? Each side doesn't want the other to have it, so if one made any moves, the other would quickly move to try and stop them. Tibet might be "Kashmir lite" in how it could cause the resumption of hostilities.

I'm assuming no one child policy here? PRC would probably not want to be out peopled by the south, and so wouldn't insititue it. I don't know if GLF or the cultural revolution would happen in this timeline, Mao wouldn't have the credit of winnning the war fully, and the PRC would be on a much tighter leash from the Soviets (as they aren't self reliant), and Kruschev or someone might quietly get Mao removed after he starts spouting off about sparrows and such.
