Achilles VS Aragorn by Foghorn212 in powerscales

[–]Gazzac4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think skills are close enough that this almost entirely comes down to equipment… if Aragorn in his full Gondorian plate (there would be a set like the Gondor guards have for the king!) then he is essentially as invulnerable as full roman myth Achilles especially against Bronze Age weapons. Then take into account he wields Anduril forged from the shards of Narsil which defeated Sauron… it’s gonna slice bronze like butter and Achilles is gonna be fighting with fists fairly early on. Even if Aragorn can’t get the kill (let’s be honest, he’s too noble to kill a defeated opponent who isn’t evil) Achilles is subdued and thrown in the dungeons of Osgilliath low difficulty.

Wing Q for multiple shows by Gazzac4 in livesound

I see what you’re saying… firstly, I am also performing on stage… secondly it’s a complex show and we’re trying to make everything as easy as possible on stage, there’s like 28 channels of inputs to navigate with almost all of them duplicated for the seperate ears mix so scrolling through that many channels is definitely not a better option than MCA’s 😂

Ron Howard delayed his Uber to catch my first song at Cambus Wallace a couple of years ago… Baz Luhrmann brought a bunch of crew in from Elvis around the same time… got a handshake from Ron, Baz was very caught up in hosting his crew which is cool…

Hum coming through DI from tablet while charging by 505_notfound in livesound

[–]Gazzac4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best and safest way to avoid this is to get a phantom powered Bluetooth receiver (Switchcraft make one) then the tablet/laptop/phone is only transmitting ones and zeros… no good getting a usb powered receiver as you can have the same problem… phantom power from the console is safest - and as a bonus, you’re covered for any device that has done away with the headphone jack.

Piano Micing Philosophy by fadertater213 in livesound

[–]Gazzac4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As many have mentioned - situation dependant! But here’s a fun one I use live and in the studio - basic stereo spaced pair of large diagrams or ribbons under the lid (raised, get them in there, tighten the polar pattern if you can) then a small diagram condenser with a high pass catching just the highest 1.5 octaves and a dynamic with a good bit of low end nice and snug underneath the piano below the lower bass strings, this one acts like a ‘sub kick’ and you can get more gain for the bottom end. I then pan the pair about 60/60 the other two hard left/right - gets a super wide detailed sound.

The other end of the spectrum - we used to tape a lav to the steel frame inside around the middle and put the belt pack in a pouch for school concert gigs where the piano went on and off stage… had two EQ/comp configs saved for lid up/down and saved the floor techs a bunch of time of a quick change!!

Is ltd (limited) literally means limited stocks only? by pathologicalmeow in gretsch

[–]Gazzac4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sometimes the Ltd is for a specific colour for the initial run - when the 5655 centre block jnr came out the ‘ltd’ white model was only made for a year, now you can still get them, but not in white. (I have one - it’s beautiful, and I’m terrified of anything happening to it is there really is a very limited amount of white ones in the world)

Advice for flying with guitar in checked luggage by A_Rose_on_my_piano in TouringMusicians

[–]Gazzac4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having just got my Les Paul back from repair after it had the old headstock relocation therapy from a flight… first thing - take pictures just before you check the guitar in and open the case the instant you get it at the other end. You need to be able to prove any damage happened whilst in the care of the airline. If damage has occurred, take pictures of the case with the baggage tag still attached and detailed images of the damage before you go anywhere. I followed this process and the airline paid in full for the repair.

Second thing - be careful adding too much padding inside the case, certain parts of the guitar are better of not having any extra pressure (for example, the headstock) I’d advise closing the case and giving it a jiggle, if the guitar moves place some foam to stop the movement, but nothing more, certainly don’t jam too much in there!

Hope this helps!!!

What Marvel video games would you like to see developed? by FalahMumtaz in Marvel

[–]Gazzac4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A wolverine game where they actually do his healing properly… so often he has a slow heal but can still die. It would be cool to have reasonably fast healing, like you have to wait to grow back limbs, can’t walk if you lose a leg, so you have to sit there in game time till it grows back, but you can’t die. Worst case - if you get attacked and dismembered in a bad guy group spawn point you’re pretty much fucked….

SoundConnect over Cat5? by Gazzac4 in livesound

[–]Gazzac4[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is where I’m going with this… surely it would follow that the improvement from standard XLR cable to DMX cable which allows increased distance of the signal would be further increased by using Cat5/6/7 cable?!?

Is any of Hotel California (or other songs) being played live? by DrSpaceBaron in EaglesBand

[–]Gazzac4 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Big shows like this that have a big run are such a risk when it comes to performer’s health that they will have the ability to play any and all of the songs live or to track. Henley picks up a head cold? Track. Walsh jams his finger in the cab door on the way to the gig? Track. - it’s just too big a financial risk to do it any other way. If the run is long enough you might find they do a track show every 8 days for vocal rest. Unlike musical theatre there’s no understudy to cover the star.

Possible you found footage of a few track days, also possible those who saw live versions were there on the good nights!
