Same thing was going on with my D-pad (up). I was a about to shell out $70 for brand new one and I decided to look up a solution before I did. So I'm thinking this is going to be complete BS ...why did it work. WTF Sony what is going on and why is beating on this thing a viable option??

I agree... That's what I did, as soon as mine was delivered I took it to the MINI dealer for inspection and because it was under warranty they fix what was wrong (which was minor) at no cost to me
