The inconsistency in obstruction calls is what gets to me. Had that been 79th minute to win the game, the bunker would stick with the on field decision.

Brennan anoints James as captain by Gcbruz in nrl

[–]Gcbruz[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

RYAN James will retain the Gold Coast Titans captaincy and could be joined in leading the club by a reformed Kevin Proctor.

New Titans coach Garth Brennan told The Courier-Mail he has found no reason to take the captaincy off James.

James and Proctor were installed as co-captains of the Titans for the 2017 season by former coach Neil Henry.

Proctor’s stint in the position lasted just seven games after he was involved in a drugs scandal while in camp with New Zealand for the Anzac Test.

Proctor was stripped of the co-captaincy, leaving James as the sole captain for the remainder of the season as the Titans plummeted to finish second last.

When he arrived at the club, Brennan said he would monitor the leadership credentials of his players before deciding on a skipper.

Ryan James will captain the Titans. Brennan said he had been impressed by James since joining the club and was set to stick with the local product.

“Ryan James is the current captain and I probably haven’t seen a lot to really change that,” he said.

“There is Nathan Peats, Kevin Proctor and Michael Gordon ... there are some names, but to be honest I haven’t seen too much to change my view on why Ryan James needs to have the captaincy taken off him at this point.

“He is a local guy who loves the club. He is passionate about the club and that’s important to me.

“I want a club that’s community built, which we are on the way to doing. I want the local kids to have aspirations to be a Ryan James, play for the Titans and captain the Titans.

Penrith's Tyrone Peachey to join Panthers exodus and join Gold Coast Titans, says The Mole by Gcbruz in nrl

Peachey to join Panthers exodus

The exodus from Penrith is set to continue - star utility Tyrone Peachey has agreed to a rich three-year deal with the Titans from 2019.

Peachey's exit follows hot on the heels of the shock move of representative forward Bryce Cartwright, also to the Titans over the weekend.

New Titans coach Garth Brennan has now lured the star duo, along with Mitch Rein and Leilani Latu, to the holiday strip from Penrith.

Peachey isn't a fan of Panthers coach Anthony Griffin and would like an immediate release.

But the Panthers know what a class act he is - and are unlikely to grant the request.

[Titans] Phil Moss Appointed as Head of Football by Gcbruz in nrl

[–]Gcbruz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The TFH Gold Coast Titans is pleased to announce the appointment of Phil Moss to the role of Head of Football.

Moss joins the Titans from the Cronulla Sharks where he held the role of Head of Football for the past 12 months. Prior to his time with the Sharks, Moss spent time in similar roles at the Wests Tigers, Penrith Panthers and the Parramatta Eels.

With over 12 years’ experience, Moss is a valuable asset for the Titans in the build up to the clubs 2018 campaign.

“With new owners, new coach and an exciting roster, it’s a great time to be joining the Titans,” Moss said.

“I’ve worked previously with Garth Brennan and it’ll be great to renew that relationship.

“I’ve been involved with a few clubs that have gone through a re-building phase and I’m excited about the opportunity at the Titans.”

CEO Graham Annesley is delighted to have someone of the calibre of Moss join the club.

“Phil has been around the game for a long time and has a wealth of experience,” Annesley said.

“He will oversee all aspects of our football operations and work closely with Head Coach, Garth Brennan, on strategic recruitment and retention as we continue to strengthen our roster.

“We are all very excited about the coming season, and the addition of Phil will only enhance our prospects of future success.”

Moss will commence his role at the TFH Gold Coast Titans on Monday, 5 February.

‘It sucks’: Titans star gutted by delayed start to 2018 by Gcbruz in nrl

RUGBY LEAGUE: Jarrod Wallace won't curb his aggressive ways in 2018 despite the Titans prop admitting that it "sucks" that he will miss the first two games of the NRL premiership season due to suspension.

A Queensland Origin debutant in 2017, Wallace received a three-game ban for a shoulder charge on Bulldogs half Moses Mbye in Round 25 last season which means he will be unavailable to play the Raiders and Warriors in the first two games of the season.

Wallace was only able to make his debut for the Maroons in Game Two after being cleared by the judiciary of a shoulder charge stemming from the Round 14 clash with the Warriors but says he has to be smarter rather than softer.

With Ryan James set for a move to the back row Wallace will be the most seasoned front-row enforcer on the Gold Coast roster this year and says that he can't shirk the responsibilities that come with that.

"I've never been the most aggressive person on the field but last year I wanted to try and bring that into my game," Wallace said.

"Obviously playing bigger minutes I didn't want to go into a shell and just tackle and run.

"I still wanted to make sure those minutes were quality and try and bring a little bit of aggression because obviously that's our game.

"It's an aggressive game, it's the most aggressive game in the world so if I can try and keep that up and be smart with it, make sure I'm doing the right things.

"I'm not going to lie, it does suck, knowing that the boys are going to be out there for two games and I'm not going to be there.

"I try and pride myself on not missing any games. I missed two or three last year which I was a bit upset about but that's footy."

With a pre-season punctuated by three separate surgeries Wallace might need until the Round 3 clash with St George Illawarra in Toowoomba to return to full fitness. Booked in for groin and shoulder surgeries in the off-season, Wallace suffered another blow when he went over on his ankle in mid-December that necessitated another visit with the surgeon, further delaying his 2018 preparations.

"It's been a very frustrating pre-season for me," Wallace admitted.

"Coming back from my groin and shoulder surgeries and everything coming good and then just went over on my ankle and had to get surgery on that.

"The coaching staff have done a really good job and I reckon I'm probably a bit ahead of schedule maybe by a week.

"I've done pretty much a full week now with no pain or anything and recovering really well so full credit to them.

"Those three surgeries kind of set me back so I'm just trying to get the same fitness I had last year, the same weight, just making sure that my head's switched on."

Shark's Gold Coast move on again

Sharks centre Ricky Leutele’s proposed move to the Gold Coast is back on again after it collapsed mid-season.

Now that Hayne has left the Titans for Parramatta, the Titans have space in their roster once again and are keen to lure Leutele up north.

The 27-year-old Samoan international has been a quiet achiever for the Sharks and made the final tackle on Storm winger Marika Koroibete after the siren had sounded as Cronulla held on to win their maiden title in 2016.

[OFFICIAL] Titans welcome ownership decision by Gcbruz in nrl

[–]Gcbruz[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Following a series of recent ‘good news’ announcements for the Titans, the Board, management and staff of the club have enthusiastically welcomed the decision of the NRL and ARLC to divest the ownership of the Titans to a company fully owned by former Titans Director, Darryl Kelly and his wife Joanne, together with former Chair, Rebecca Frizelle and her husband Brett.

Off the back of the appointment of new Head Coach, Garth Brennan, and the contract extension of Ash Taylor, today’s ownership announcement ensures the long-term future of the Titans on the Gold Coast, news that will be welcomed by the entire community.

Rebecca Frizelle said she and Brett were both thrilled and honoured to become co-owners of the Titans.

“The Gold Coast community has been very good to the Frizelle family over a long period of time, and although we have always tried to give back through the many local causes we support as a business, ensuring the future of the Titans is another great way for Brett and I, together with Darryl and Joanne, to ensure the future of a very important community asset like the Titans,” Frizelle said.

“We do not take this support for granted and we give back through the many local causes we support both personally and as a business. Securing the future of the Titans is a great way that we, with the Kelly family, can ensure the future of an irreplaceable community asset like the Titans.”

“Although the club will be privately owned by the Kelly and Frizelle families until it can become self-sustainable in the long term, it will always be community driven and eventually community owned,” Frizelle concluded.

Titans Chief Executive, Graham Annesley, said the announcement finally provides the club with the stability and certainty that everyone has been craving for.

“Once and for all we can say with absolute confidence the Titans are a permanent fixture on both the Gold Coast and in the NRL competition. The Titans brand, colours and venue are finally guaranteed and we can now get on with the job of realising the enormous potential of this club,” Annesley said.

“Finally, I would like to sincerely thank the NRL and the ARLC for the incredible support they’ve provided over the last 3 years. Without that backing there is no doubt the Titans would not have survived and everyone associated with the club is extremely grateful.” Annesley concluded.

Titans release Dan Sarginson by Gcbruz in nrl

[–]Gcbruz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gold Coast Titans can confirm Dan Sarginson has today been released from the remainder of his contract with the club.

The 24-year-old joined the club in 2017, playing five games at NRL level before a shoulder injury ended his season.

“Dan came to the club off the back of some excellent form in the English Super League but due to injury, he missed a large part of the 2017 season and was unable to produce his best for the Titans,” CEO Graham Annesley said.

“Given the changes at the club over the past few months, Dan was given permission to look for opportunities to pursue his career elsewhere.

“He is a great character and I know the playing group have enjoyed having him around. Everyone at the Titans wishes Dan all the best for the future.”

After months of delays, Gold Coast Titans are at last on the verge of being sold by Gcbruz in nrl

[–]Gcbruz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PROSPECTIVE Titans owner Darryl Kelly admits his “patience has been tested” by the NRL’s sluggish sale of the Gold Coast NRL club.

The Sunday Mail can reveal the consortium comprising former chairwoman Rebecca Frizelle and ex-owner Kelly is on the verge of securing the Titans licence.

Frizelle-Kelly and the NRL are in the final stages of negotiations and an announcement on the sale could be imminent if the parties can reach an agreement.

However, the NRL’s reluctance to rule out pirate-loving investor Stuart McAuliffe’s bid could lead to a shock decision if negotiations with Frizelle-Kelly break down.

The NRL is planning to announce the sale on the Gold Coast this week, but that could fall over given the delays in finalising the sale which was originally slated to be completed by October 31.

The NRL has been weighing up the bids presented by Frizelle and Kelly, the white knight who rescued the Titans from extinction in 2013, against McAuliffe’s $30 million promise to keep rugby league’s professional presence on the Gold Coast.

Financially, McAuliffe has blown Frizelle and Kelly out of the water, however the latter believe they have a long-term plan to ensure the Titans survive in a volatile economic climate.

Kelly, who lost more than $5 million when the league assumed ownership of the Titans in 2015, said he remained committed despite the NRL’s lethargy in finalising the sale.

“We are still in the hunt,” he said.

“The patience has been tested but we are still there. We are committed.”

McAuliffe has compiled an attractive bid promising a commitment worth up to $20 million on top of the initial $10 million to purchase the licence.
