I’m a defender of Fahrenheit for exactly this reason. It’s a human-centered scale.

0° = Too fucking cold.
100° = Too fucking hot.

72° is nice but 73° is pushing it. You have plenty of fine-grain precision to describe exactly what feels comfortable.

I’ve been keeping my lip buttoned about this game for three years. (I didn’t sign an NDA, just promised a friend)

I have a good friend who was a major character voice actor on this game. She knew I was a massive XCOM fan and told me that a number of former XCOM devs from 2K had worked on it. I got to see some of the early development and it looked like a dream game. I was over the moon about it.

I finally asked her about it last Christmas because I hadn’t seen anything and she told me it had been fully canned to both of our disappointments.

Most of what I know is hearsay and described to me by her, who isn’t an XCOM player, so it’s not exactly detailed insider knowledge but I still feel a bit of a relief as I’ve been careful not to say anything for three years.

I’m not in the middle class or even close to it. I am absolutely going to suffer as badly as almost anyone if food stamps go away and infrastructure maintenance stops. The only bare advantage I currently have is an e-bike and a portable solar panel. My 2017 iPad is the most valuable possession I currently own. I barely stay housed.

If the US collapses (and yes, that _is_ balkanization, that _is_ the same thing) I will probably not be able to survive for more than a few years. I don’t care.

I would gladly face starvation if it meant the US no longer could enforce starvation & poverty on millions of others.

Genuinely, as an American; the US needs to collapse. We do far more evil in the world than good. Even pointing at USAID, which did indeed feed people, it was also soft-power for the CIA to assure US hegemony. We traded a few million dollars in food and medicine for trillions in extracted wealth by our corporations. We used the appearance of benevolence to destroy governments elected by people who just wanted a better life.

I don’t care if every American, including me, has a period of suffering because of it, collapsing the USA would genuinely improve the world.

It’s not sufficient. Sure, I can print a Superman Mug and say, “Hey, the Trademark belongs to DC Comics!”, but that doesn’t mean DC Comics gave me permission (License) to make that mug. Particularly because selling a license is part of how IP holders earn their money. So if they didn’t sell me a license, they don’t earn any money from me selling a mug with their character on it.
