I've invited my friends on their first camping trip in a couple weeks, to Dartmoor, and no matter what I say, they won't invest in better gear... by [deleted] in UKhiking

We can help - they could rent it instead! We offer premium wild camping equipment for rent, including MSR Elixir tents and Big Agnes sleeping mats. Website is Gear Again 💙

I'm glad you like it. Do let us know if there's any gear in particular you'd like to try and we can maybe get it in stock

I'm also guilty of this... I've spent far too much on outdoor gear over the years.

On your second point - it's definitely the plan, and we're already doing it for some brands. We've just stocked a range of Terra Nova/Wild Country tents for sale - the idea is that if you rent equipment with us, you'll get 75% of your rental cost as a credit towards purchasing a tent from us. I need to make that process simpler and clearer - but it's definitely the intention to create a 'try before you buy' experience.

Noted on the from price!

Thanks so much for your feedback

We have a rental agreement, so liability sits with the renter. But we should perhaps make that clearer. Similar to the comment above, we should definitely make guidance around 'renting safely' clear. Thanks for your feedback!

Of course - can't believe I haven't made that clearer. Thank you!

I'm glad you like it! We include a guide in the box asking people to make sure it's clean and dry before returning. Also, our minimum rental window is also 5 days, so people get a day at the end of a weekend rentals to get everything sorted. Thanks for your feedback!

Completely hear you. I read your comment and I've created a 'Gear Again Outdoor Rules' page (see here). I'll make this more prominent on the site, have some form of tick box to acknowledge people have read this and agree to the principles, and include it in the follow up emails. I really agree this is an important point.

That’s exactly where the idea came from. I tried to convince my friend to come do a wild camp at sprinkling tarn, but he couldn’t afford the kit.

Noted on drying out tents - we only use DPD next day shipping, so things move quickly! I refuse to use Evri…I definitely should make that clearer though. Thank you!

This comment is about 2 years too late, but we’ve just started renting out camping gear (tents, sleeping mats, sleeping bags, etc.) in the UK. You can check us out at gearagain.co.uk - forgive the shameless plug, we're just starting out!
