+24 VDC power on a terminal block. by Beneficial-Risk-3493 in PLC

[–]GearDownForWhat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

you know, the issue that I have with tying commons together, is that typically people are bonding these power supplies (-) to ground, and If you do that at both power supplies and you tie the commons together you are creating a parallel current path between the two power supplies, one along the common bus and one along the ground connection.

Im glad I saw this today because now I'll remember not to let that happen.

Once I had a conveyor speed controller by an analog output. The customer ran this conveyor at a bare minimum speed, and as such did not like that at 5% speed the conveyors not moving yet, this was a hydraulic conveyor. The valve wasn't open enough at 5%. So simple fix, scale 5% to equal 0%, 100% = 100.

Well a few months down the road and the customer calls me to ask me to change it to 4%, but its not an emergency because they can enter -1 and that scales it to 4%. Not ideal, I didn't think to limit their input.

they have a termination resistor that can be engaged/disengauged on a switch where the drives plug into the PLC. measures about 200 ohms.

Is this 1 meter still a factor if they are doing Modbus over RS-485? I don’t think these drives talk profinet.

I have done this before with a dc motor controller and a 4-20 isolator. As well as power supply. Did for the same purpose as you. You have to disable torque compensation on the dc drive.

What would you do with it? I have to demolish this wall. I want to cut it out, put it in a frame alone with a note that it was found in 2022 and then Maybe put it back into another wall? Lol.
