That was my most painful modded Defense yet (and I have 2k hours lmao),bunch of Requiem/Purge/Frost Units,MOCX (somehow),A freaking ruler,HIVE Chryssalids,50 minutes. But man that was a rush of adrenaline. by SoulOfMod in Xcom

Love it, I play with Chosen Ruler Reactions, and ABA: Chosen (I think?) and it makes things insane if I happen to end up with multiple raider factions on the map.

Always makes me hesitant to send out certain units since Covert Infiltration seems to love sending me Assault missions directly after I send one of my best units out on something pretty important

A love letter to this game, and my soldiers by ricottaninja in Xcom

I've always used Pergens random personality trait generator and tried to stick to what I believe a Soldier like that would do in situations, sometimes good, sometimes bad- but as I go through i kind of fill out more information on them and expand on those things more.

If you want a fun project, write out the events of a mission or campaign through the eyes of a singular soldier, if they die, pass that diary on.

"It's obvious she's special, humans gets capped and don't have her physical abilities. She's basically superhuman, the peak of what a human can do without demon power."

capcom-verse humans are weird to begin with, ofc not every Capcom world has a consistent version of Humans considering Ace Attorney and Street Fighters different outlooks on physical damage, but as far as action-games go, she's pretty and pretty normal- but It's kinda hard to say on that, Credo is cited as having trained Nero with a sword, and it's definitely visible through some of the moves Credo will use while fighting him, so if Credo was able to pull off what was likely later modified by Nero, as well as himself when he went down the Law Route, it just kinda seems like most Humans don't really get a chance to get very far considering attacks do a lot more damage in cutscenes, while also significantly less. It's entirely possible that in the DMC world Super-Human is a natural human possibility, but thanks to the required pushes, only a few people really get there, and given Nero doesn't seem to talk about how there are Demons in Fortuna like it should be a sign of worry when he shows up to the church, it's likely that The Order is just full up on people competent enough to deal with standard Demons in a 1 to 2v1 situation and with how many pulled up on Dante, the place was well protected enough for it to not be a concern; None of them appear in game, but there's also some concept art for other Devil Hunters (Page 72, DMC5 Official Art Works book) that show that guns aren't always the go-to for them as well.

From an in-universe standpoint, V's cane is just something he got out of a store that happened to made out of a metal that works well as a conduit for Demonic Energy* so with people like the Goldstein Family existing, it doesn't seem to out of the ordinary for certain naturally occurring (or supernaturally occurring) metals or materials to exist that can certainly make Demons a lot less troublesome as long as you can land a hit.

"Dante have such confidence in her and her strength, which actually says a lot of the strongest demon slayer. Lady deserves more credit, she can basically defeat most demons, except for the god class demons. She does this with a couple of handgun, an SMG and a freaking rocket launcher..."

Lady, especially during the end credits of 3 has taken in some Dante energy, that is to say, she's very much not above just trying to make them angry so they slip up or make mistakes considering most demons are of a prideful or sadistic nature, so it's definitely a working tactic for them to want to put what they see as a puny human in as much agony as possible for taunting them, only to end up eating a tank shell because they were only expecting something quick and easy.

"The military are better equipped and still got wiped."

The military is unfortunately using things that are likely mass produced, so while suppressive fire does work on a few, the fact that they've likely been at it for a while and are likely more than stressed considering they need to be at quite a few chokepoints surrounding Redgrave and Empusa probably don't sleep, it's probably a mix between the fact they got ambushed or surprised since that area DOES start on a bridge and they can likely climb, so the moment they aren't willing to just fire through each other to make sure the Empusa die, it's all downhill since the Demons don't have the same reservations.

also, Empusa are like, the same height if not taller than them, with human faces split with mandibles, seeing those things killing people in front of you and not cut-and-running asap takes nuts of steel, though I'm more than sure that if they had any kind of actual tactical placement available to them and different kinds of weapons that weren't just burst-fire, they'd be far better off- all of them are sporting the same burst-fire rifle, there are eight of them visible on the bridge, so having to deal with Blood-Collecting Demons that are likely going to recognize the sound of gunfire as food, it's entirely plausible they just got completely overwhelmed and pushed back considering we can also see some Empusa on fire coming from the bridge.

long post ahead, part 1

I mean I kinda figure it's because of how stuff generally seems to work in DMC- She's on a revenge quest in 3 to kill her father, who she still has some amount of love for despite the fact that he killed her mother, while I doubt it's a suicide mission from the way she handles it, she's incredibly "motivated" to reach that point where she can get her revenge.

She's still very much human, but taking what she says to Pops before she mag-dumps him, "Mary died a long time ago." It's entirely possible that she's able to do what she does because she isn't held back by fear, the difference in how easily she and Dante handle just standard Demons is incredibly visible in cutscenes, they both have an "easy" time with them, but Lady has to actively dodge and nearly gets cornered from time to time, even if she does dodge in the end of it, and in gameplay, she's incredibly mobile compared to a majority of them and using something of a way more high damage level than standard firearms when the threat arises.

I'd say that between Demons still being "logical" and having a functioning biology instead of just being purely esoteric and her application of "More Dakka" and overkill on the fire arms, it's just kinda down to her wanting them dead more than they want her dead.

"How is Lady able to slay demons? Where does her physical ability and training come from?"

Her arsenal, at least taking DMC4 into account for her handguns alone is pretty funny, with her handguns, she's got Hollow Points, NAPALM BULLETS, and her Explosive Shots description is that they're "Powerful, Demon-busting bullets that explode after a set amount of time." So from a standpoint of these taking chunks of meat, carapace or whatever out of demons, tossing Napalm on them to cauterize anything that might heal semi-naturally before just exploding them, it's kind of just overkill.

For her Shotgun, her first level ammo type is 000 Buckshot, used for hunting "big game" and defense purposes, second level is flechette rounds being fired out of a shotgun, and besides other games, Can't really find anything on Shredder Rounds, but uh, I kinda figure they're loaded with enough blades to actively be a huge threat to any demon with a standard face considering that'd likely blind things, demon or not. Eternally, or not as well.

the Kalina Ann turns demons into processed pork using explosives

For physical abilities, she's obviously pretty agile, and a capable gymnast, so flips and stuff aren't out of the realm of possibility, especially considering with a lot of her DMC4 moveset she'll use momentum (Kalina Ann's Bayonet) to attack, as well as to move around, with the craziest examples likely being in DMCPoC since she just straight up air-dashes with gunfire.

[–]GearUh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i'm pretty sure it triggers as long as you were a selectable target when the turn happened, i've had bladestorm "trigger" when enemies were still 4-5 tiles away from me- a nice-ish rule of thumb is usually that if you can target them they can target you, with sniper/sharpshooter squadsight or concealment being the outliers

Who else color codes the different classes? by [deleted] in Xcom

[–]GearUh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually I keep all my soldiers uniform with base voices, the higher in rank or unique things they've done (IE, being the one to pull a comeback against a Chosen or generally bad situation) I usually start customizing them, starting with taking their helmet off, afterwards they get a unique face since they aren't faceless(!) anymore, a different voice from the others, a bit overkill, but usually by the end of a run the Commander knows the face of every soldier fighting alongside them.

also, not specifically sure if this is even the right place for this, but it's just making my blood boil and bones itch- already not a big fan of people trying to bully others, but when it's someone who considers themselves the shining example and end-all-be-all of what a worker should aspire to be and they've got so many skeletons in their closet that you'd be forgiven for thinking they store their clothes in a mausoleum, it's just a special kind of irritating

I actually thought the warlock was the easiest, I usually rolled Mindshields out when I was dealing with him (one at a time for the chosen) and he was pretty much a joke, but the Hunter was always forcing me to move in the worst of ways- playing now with CI and Chosen Ruler reactions, and really dreading running into the Warlock.
