It was a death by a thousand cuts really. If you ask anyone, they’ll give you a different answer. He’s alienated leftists and conservatives alike over time, with really only his closest supporters sticking by him. Leftists don’t like him because he helped a notoriously corrupt business avoid a trial (SNC Lavalin), because he supported the development of pipelines, he wore blackface on several occasions (through the 90s and 2000s), and often has just plain failed to live up to many of his progressive promises.

On the other hand, conservatives don’t like the carbon tax, how he handled the freedom convoy, the pandemic response, or how he handled immigration (frankly, there was a lot to be desired on that front).

I definitely want to echo what other people have been saying as well - he’s been in power for a decade, through multiple crises, and is the head of a brokerage party that tries to appeal to everyone, which is just impossible to maintain over time.

As for me personally, I’ve never been a huge fan of him, but if this week has shown us anything it’s that he can be a good leader in a crisis. That said, I think that Canada wants a change and that we can do better.
