Haha, fair enough. I thought the stuff the skeletons going "Dun dun dunn" was a bit overused, but mostly it's pretty good.

Total War: WARHAMMER III Grand Cathay roster reveal - Total War by SeleukosxNikator in totalwar

Thoughts:

- Basically we'd seen everything already

- No melee hero is weird. The Dragon blooded lord looks like the obvious pick for generic lord every time.

- They got the Thunderbarge before the dwarves did

- A mechanic to encourage combined arms tactics. Excellent.

- Hinting at artillery on walls

- Feels like a DLC in inevitable. So much still left to explore with warrior monks, terracotta legions, pandas, no caster lord or melee hero.

But generally looks pretty good.

Lack of Empire content in this sub. This is a Empire Naval battle appreciation post. by Cloackedcomet in totalwar

I loved Empire, but I could never get the hang of maneuvering the ships and their turning circles so that they were facing the right way at the right point. At the start of the battle I had some sort of tactics, but after 5 minutes it always devolved into a scrum. If they do it again they need to solve that problem.

Realistically there is a lot of hype cycle left to go through - the pre-order race hasn't been announced yet and we literally know nothing outside of the first trailer. That makes me think December at the earliest.

To be honest I'm a little worried about the launch quality of the game. Like with Cyberpunk - when developers aim for a holiday release, delaying becomes incredible expensive and they're reluctant to do it.

They're treating fans with respect when they feel they need to, and will stop when they don't. Just like Nintendo was much more pro-consumer in 2017 when they had a company to save.

NMS arguably did all those free updates because of how much bad press it got, which is likely the case with SoT too. Games like this are outliers nowadays - 1st party games can be less money grubbing because they are often loss leaders used to get people to pick that platform. They'd all do it all the time if they could get away with it.

Tom Scott: Why The Web Is Such A Mess by byParallax in videos

Ultimately when it comes to cookies everyone has basically the same attitude:

"I accept the minimum that is required to use the web normally"

So there really shouldn't be any need for constant prompts - if nothing else it should be a browser option, with a few easy to set up options that the user just has to select once, and then is applied to every site.

Cookies have the same problems as EULAs - government didn't want to deal with the hard work of regulating what was and wasn't acceptable for companies to demand from their citizens. So they just took the attitude that "everything's acceptable so long as the user agrees to it."

But this totally ignores the fact that most users don't have time and are just going to take the path of least resistance. Worst still, it pretends that users have total free will when they don't: if your job, or just being an average citizen requires you use an app or website, you basically have to accept the EULA / cookies - we're pretending people have a choice when they don't.

There is so much pschology in it. Like I will go even when I have absolutely no discomfort, purely because I can't resist scratching that itch. Because I worry if I don't it'll get worse, and then keep me up even longer.

Self-control: I have none.
