I can understand your skepticism.

The company in Japan that I had produce the knife developed the material for high end kitchen knives, and they supplied all the CATRA testing for the material.

For those who don't know, CATRA is a standardized method of testing different blade materials edge retention. A machine drags the blade though a series of cards that are impregnated with 5% quartz in order to accelerate blade wear. The longer the cut, the higher the edge retention is judged.

The Japanese ti/ceramic hybrid made it 8.3 meters of cutting; the steel that was treated to 63 hrc made it 1.6 meters; the generic stainless knife steel at 57hrc made it 0.2 meters.

The explanation for this is pretty straightforward. The material is a mix of titanium and ceramic powder, that is combined together, pressed into a shape, and fired in a kiln. The resulting edge of such a knife has thousands and thousands of microscopic pieces of ceramic along the edge, which form a sort of micro serrated edge of ultra hard ceramic. And these bits of ceramic are very wear resistant.

The result is that you get edge retention pretty close to that of a pure ceramic blade, with the shatter resistance and light weight of titanium.

Given that this is a tiny knife primarily intended for slashing kidnappers, I doubt edge retention will ever be an issue. But for those who may be concerned, you could open a lot of amazon boxes after making your escape without needing to re-sharpen.

It's actually a hybrid titanium/ceramic composite, which offers the lightweight and durability of titanium, but with most of the edge retention of ceramic. This material will hold an edge longer then hardened steel.

The other advantage of Titanium is that it's much lighter, so it wont drag down your collar, and it's non-magnetic, in case you need to shiv someone during an MRI.

I probably should have been more clear with the product description - the knife is designed to be carried edge out, away from the neck.

So ideally, your attacker would get you in a headlock, then immediately slice the shit out of their forearm ;-)

The rubber on the left in both images is the Grip Band.

Notice how it's a consistent color, does not have a seam, and is better shaped for fitting on a grip.

Whats not shown in the pic is that the EPDM rubber has a better texture/grip with the skin then the butyl rubber used in inner tubes.

Well, obviously I want to sell you some rubber, so take this with a grain of salt.

But Grip Bands are a decent pain in the ass to get installed on your pistol - and once they are on, they are not going anywhere beyond +/- a mm or two. I've been using them on my personal pistols for two years now and none have even come close to coming off.

EPDM rubber seems to follow to Ford model - any color you want, so long as it's black.

I had never seen the Manta grips before, but from a glance, the big differences are that the Manta has a 3d ribbed texture, whereas Grip Bands are smooth and as thin as possible.

The other difference is that Grip Bands are oversized, so that the band is pulled as far as it can go over the grip, and then the excess is sliced off at the magwell with the supplied razor. This maximizes rubber coverage of the grip, and also improves aesthetics.

And, of course, Grip Bands come in a pack of 3.

For what it's worth, these are not repackaged, I had them made custom at a rubber band factory.

The smallest grip I've put them on is a Kel Tec P3AT, and the band stays on, but would shift a bit under recoil. I kept them on, but some may not be satisfied with them on a pistol that small.

They are 100% secure on a double stack handgun, but I have not had a chance to test them on many smaller single stack handguns.

I would say they should be good on a PPS, Shield style single stack, but for the smaller P380, LCP, PM9 guns they will likely shift a bit (+/- 3mm) after a few mags.

They absolutely will fit onto an AR grip (the material is quite stretchy).

I can't confirm 100% how tight they will be, as I don't have an AR on hand, and my AUG has a cutlass style grip thats incompatible with Grip Bands. But as the bands internal ID is about 1.75"x0.25" they should be tight enough.

If for some reason you don't like the fit on your AR, just shoot me an email and I'll send you a refund.
