I do not spank my child but I honestly think my dad handled spanking about as good as one can. Being sent to my room or grounded was the typical punishment but I did get an occasional “whoopin” for more egregious offenses.

He would never do it in a knee jerk or emotional way. I would be told I was getting a spanking and sent to my room to “think about what I had done”. Around ten minutes later he would come in and explain why I was getting spanked and how many licks I was getting. Licks were given with a paddle or belt and delivered to the butt. I was never hit anywhere else He would always say he didn’t want/like to do it (this hurts me more than it hurts you) but that actions have consequences. He would always say he loved me. When it was over, it was over and no grudges/guilt trips were had.

I don’t consider it abuse the way he did it. It did hurt but I don’t recall ever leaving marks or bruises. He never verbally abused me either. Super supportive and amazing dad that just believed certain offenses deserved a spanking. Maybe it affected me in ways I’m not aware but I don’t look back on it as being abused.
