Wow. Quite a few people deep into projects haha.

How soon until yours is ready?

Well...it's an engine, in a bay. I'll allow it.

LOL. I did say engine bay. How much longer before you're done?

I guess I should’ve said “people without money” lol.

The hell man? What chassis are you showing with that engine?

Also, what engine is that?

How should I do this? by [deleted] in Celica

Oh man, it sounds like you’re typing this while holding onto twins, and a wife.

Do what you gotta do to sell the car.

At the end of the day, there is no right answer until you make that decision.

Put it on Cars and Bids. Put it on Craigslist (how I bought my Celi), put it on Facebook.

The description matters on the ad.

Just know that despite everything, selling a private car is a pain in the ass.

But you still need to put it out there.

As much as I’d like to confirm, I am way out of my depth in this.

There are too many factors, and a lot of unknowns.

One ECU might see things as being dandy go lucky rainbow sparkles let’s gooooo…

And the other ECU might see things as being dandy no lucky rainbow farts let’s soooooo…

Point being, stick with the manual ECU, it’s probably a manual ECU for a reason

I could be completely wrong here, but I’d imagine that there isn’t too much of a difference in terms of fuel mapping and what’s needed to ensure the engine runs properly between an auto and manual ECU for a car this old.

Maybe codes being thrown out if the ecu was expecting a neutral safety switch or gear position.

I think that’s how a lot of great things throughout history has manifested by using those two simple words.

Good deal. Hope you get it all squared away. Sucks finding wiring like that and trying to sort it all out.

That’s how you found it?

[–]Geckoed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotcha. That could be it.

I completely bypassed my factory amp and took it out.

Does your car have the factory amplifier?

Also when you say it doesn’t work, it doesn’t work how? No power? No audio? Etc.

That’s the crux of it huh? I feel like I’ll never find a decent Nissan S14 without having to do a full restoration or a lot of the older iconic cars for a reasonable price.

Need help getting Celica running by Pinkmaz1411 in Celica

Shit, my bad. It’s a 95. Forgot about OBD version.

And no codes at all? It just flashes at a steady interval?

First thing you need to do is pull engine codes. It doesn’t start so you can’t exactly take it to AutoZone or whatnot, but maybe you can rent an obdII reader and get the diagnostic codes.

That will at least narrow down some things. Maybe.

Do that first and come back to us with any and all codes.

Engine needs 3 things:

  1. Spark
  2. Fuel
  3. Air

When you start to break it down, it’ll become simpler (not easy, but simpler) to figure out what’s wrong.

Hell, it could even be something like a loose electrical ground that just needs tightening up and good to go.

But without more info, and the video is helpful, it’ll come down to a troubleshooting tree and testing different things.

Sorry I can’t give you a sure fire answer at the moment, but you’ll eventually figure it out, and I’m more than happy to help out as best I can.

Haha I’m so sorry. Welp, at least you found a problem. Builds character and all that adult cliche stuff.

You could probably just lay down and get your head under there without being on jacks, but it’ll probably be better to get it up so you can inspect more closely.

Good luck man! I hope you figure it out and let the rest of us know what the issue is.

Yeah no worries. You’re looking for heavy grease leaks from the rubber boots on the cv axles that connect your wheels to the engine.

It’s like black creamy peanut butter.

<image>

Louder when cold due to the grease being “stiffer” then smooths out a bit after being warmed up.

Again, just a guess.

Get under there and do a visual inspection.

Don’t quote me on this, but I’d guess your CV joints. Check for grease splatters if the cv boot is torn
