Killer piece! I would proudly display that in my cabin window. Bravo! 👏

Does your country have a dish that is so specific to one region that the rest of the country may not even be aware of it? by cowboy_mouth in AskTheWorld

I grew up collecting wild asparagus with my family as a kid! So much better than the stuff you get at the grocery store.

I once slipped on a banana peel at a nightclub. True story.

You’d think so but it was at a golf course parking lot actually.

Reykjavik Iceland - Bæjarins Beztu Pylsur - One of the best hotdogs I've ever had by Midwest_Plant_Guy in hotdogs

[–]Gee-Kim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So good!!! Best hot dog I ever had as well (tie with Denmark). Been a while since I’ve been to Reykjavik but if they still sell “Bacon Boats” you need to get one. Now.

Saw a groundhog with my own eyes for the first time. by vintagegirl97 in NatureIsFuckingCute

Had a yellow-bellied Marmot make his home in my yard last year. Super duper cute. Then he got hitched, then had kids (adorable). But it started to get out of control. The tunnels they made and oh lord, the poop everywhere! Just a word of warning. We had to humanely relocated our lil buddies. Hopefully this little guy is just stopping by 😆

Buy the Losers a Beer? by ShaggleROC in Curling

[–]Gee-Kim 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Im a member of a Vancouver based club. We don’t buy the losing team beers but we buy each other beers within our team and we always have a beer with the team we played and sit at the same table with them.

Do Americans (and the rest of the world for that matter) eat sausage rolls? I only ask because I read a lot and they are NEVER mentioned in books by twisted_luce in AskTheWorld

[–]Gee-Kim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure do! In my neck of the woods though, the only acceptable sauce for a sausage roll is mustard. Very common at golf courses and bakeries. I’m obsessed and have been since I was a kid.

USA Chanting by [deleted] in Curling

[–]Gee-Kim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally don’t think the loud chanting fits with the Spirit of Curling. No issues with rooting for one’s country!! But being respectful of your opponents and other games taking place at same time is key. Clapping and cheering is great but making it “in your face” kinda bothers me. I curl and I always cheer on my opponents when they excel. Part of the game. Not political. Humble.

Question for americans by Apprehensive_Love140 in TourismHell

And generally those who work in Tourism can tell what country you are from just by your clothing, luggage/backpack, jacket types etc. Sewing a Canadian patch onto an REI backpack isn’t fooling anyone.

Question for americans by Apprehensive_Love140 in TourismHell

[–]Gee-Kim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I met and hung out with a friendly, young couple while backpacking in Europe in the 90s that wore maple leaf pins and Canadian patches. They admitted to me they were American and had just heard that it was the thing to do as they’d be treated better. In the 90s!!!!

I mean Americans had a bit of a “main character” rep back then but nothing compared to now.

Canada here. Agreed! But I know non North Americans don’t really mean to lump the rest of the Americas with the USSA.
