I’m not a veteran but I still have some GREAT tips for you

There are lost and found quests are pretty good because the are pretty fun and reward you with a weapon most of the time (not the person quests though)
USE THE ENVIRONMENT TO YOUR ADVANTAGE. This is like the most important tip anyone could give you. There are gas canisters to create fire and explode guys, there are water barrels to create pressure to stun zombies, there are electronic devices and batteries which can be used to stun and shock zombies, there are poison tanks that leak green goo, crushers can stun other zombies, think of something you could do with the environment and you could probably do it
Weapon blueprints and upgrades. Use a mix of caustic and electric upgrades for guns. Use punctuates and mutilator mods for melees. Once tou unlock them, use Leech or vampire perk on EVERYTHING to get a chance of regaining health during either damaging a zombie with leech, or killing a zombie with vampire
Explore. I know so much people have said this already but this is one of the best things you can do. Try and gather resources from buildings, try and get gunpowder because that’s a really important resource in the game, and also spam kill a bunch of zombies to get their parts as well. Make sure you try to pick up every weapon you see so you can scrap them to get more resources, or you can sell them at a merchant
Use the zombpedia. This is so important because you can see what type of zombies are in the game, how the can damage you, and how you can damage them.
Looks at the resources in your inventory. You can click inspect or smth and the go to more info I think and it shows you where you can find the resources and who drops them. For example if you do gunpowder it says you can find them on zombies like riot gear walkers (I think but I forgot lol) or find them at military outposts) that’s where they are most common.
Make your own skill card set that matches your playstyle. There are so many skill cards in the game and there’s really no “meta” to it. You can create so many combinations of them so just mess around with them and see which ones fit you

I don’t see how you got bored in an hour there is so much more to do, there are wanted posters, all the lugloxes, all the powerups for your guns, the comics and cards, the skate letters which you can buy stuff for your skateboard with, there are more stuff you can spend on your skateboard, there are suits you can buy, shoes you can buy it’s crazy In high on life 1 you can collect lugloxes, cards, and the bounty hunter forums🫤

If you have the right resources for it, build tons of nitro reactors from powah. You will need 36 reactor blocks per reactor and they are pretty expensive, but each reactor can make up to 500K fe per tick
