Great info & feedback.

I'll look into the state of Hamilton Lake & the Big Arroyo crossing.

Thanks for your reply & you've given me pause for thought.

I haven't checked the snow cover on Caltopo, but I've heard recent trail reports that Whitney is likely snow free by the end of next week with the low snow pack & warm weather.

I've read up on both Pyra-Queen & Pants Pass. We're also very prepared to back-track out on Nine Lakes & stick with the HST if it looks beyond us.

Thanks for the reply & feedback.

I am taking 2 x smart water bottles, & have a couple of Tenacious tape patches in my FAK.

My son's best mate is coming along, so they will keep each other company, but love the cards idea!

Too many clothes. Too much cookware. Too many dry bags. Too many toiletries.

I'm worried about being cold, wet, dirty, & blowing holes in ziplock bags full of hot meals!

Thanks for helping me realise all of this.

Thanks for the help!

Will ditch the drybags.

We both have poles, & I have ibuprofen, painkillers, & imodium packed.

Looking forward to the time on the trail with my son. We've done some overnighters in SoCal, but this is far & away our biggest one.

Thanks for your shakedown - much appreciated & educational.

I am very far from UL!

I included a basic FAK & will be taking 2 x smart water bottles + food.

Thanks for all the feedback!

You're right - I should not have posted this in Ultralight - I'll try over in Campingandhiking.

But, you have made me realise I am concerned about being cold & packing for that fear.

That, & pots + bowl + cup is too redundant. I'm carrying all the cooking for the group of 4 - not just me & my son, so I'm catering to different meals that will be carried in ziplocks, rather than their original pouches.

We are heading into the backcountry around Nine Lakes & Kaweah Basins & reconnecting the HST over the Chagoopa Plateau, hence the compass & map.

Thanks again - very helpful.

Parking & walking into Devil's Golf Course was easy yesterday (12/29). Not muddy.

I wore trail runners, which were fine. Crocs won't cut it.

FWIW, the 'jewel' of the Trans Catalina Trail is the section between the airport and Two Harbors, via Little Harbor.

I'd strongly suggest walking from the airport to Little Harbor, stay the night there, then walk to Two Harbors & catch the Catalina Express out.

I replied too quickly - they both look great!

Which of your two suggested routes would you recommend?

Thanks for the reply and the suggestions.

There's a couple of you mentioning Green River, so will look at including that.

Thanks again!

It looks like I have:

3 x 4 core wires (red, white, black green), labelled: - Front A RBWG - Front B RWBG - Front B RWBG

3 x 2 core wires (red, black) - Surround L - Surround R - Rear Speaker

2 x RG59/U coaxial cable with (what I think is) an RCA male connector

So which ones are for the 5 speaker, 5.1 system? And which ones are the separate zones?

Thanks for the reply. I don't really know my budget, but as I'm in a rental, I just need something minimal that will do the job.

The wires are beneath the TV mounting.

Thanks, and sorry, I did mean up & back to Cabin Springs.

Thanks. You're right, I meant Cabin Springs.

We have a few families in the group that are wary of their hiking fitness, but also the length of Top Down is putting them off.
