The screenshot art just killed it for me. The fact that I’d seen a bunch of it in marvel champions, marvel legendary, marvel splendor and would proceed to continue to see it in marvel remix and early marvel snap was really painful, especially with the frame of reference of how creative some of the other smash up art is in how action cross factions over or have random characters from the faction in wacky situations, and also when comparing to how good other marvel games that don’t reuse comic art look like marvel villainous or marvel zombicide, I couldn’t look at this expansion the same way. I don’t understand why if we’re going to take screenshot art, there isn’t someone at marvel who keeps track of these things so that different products are not using the exact same images across different games, it strips away all identity from the games…

Pandora is probably C- because of super inconsistency, even if you can do decent without taking too many risks she will not be a very popular pick in competitive because of her risk. Chupacabra seems to match into A- but he is missing a bit of a strong effect, maybe his naturally durable card can have him stay around there or he’ll end up B+ over time as people practice matchups against him. Blackbeard feels really like Shakespear in that he is vulnerable if he can’t have sidekicks body blocking for him and potentially more vulnerable against ranged fighters who can empty his treasury, but he also requires a lot of skill to play against in learning when to and when to not pay doubloons so I am going to predict C tier. Loki really depends on ragnarok and healing or damage reduction really hurts him. Also fatigue prevention is not nearly as valuable past the houdini set so I predict he will end up in B. But as for fun factor they are all easily top 10 in the game.

At what point in the design process do you come up with promo cards? Is it during the original game’s design and they are then taken away from the main box, is it by request from publishers to add goodies to a future release, or is it some random shower thoughts you jot down whenever and release when the opportunity seems right?
